fireminerva 0
Assured that his unit was loaded onto both transporters Wullf radioed to the pilot. "Unit 01 please signal unit 02 that both teams are loaded and ready to transport." "Received Foxtrot 01, radioing for takeoff." Leaving everything in the pilots' hands Wullf headed back to the hanger and slipped by the mechanics requesting that they equip his ZAKU with the Gunner pack. As he reached the base of his MW Wullf felt the VoLPHAU lurch as it went airborne. Taking that as his cue Wullf pushed a button on his waist which put his radio into transmit. "Foxtrot 01 to all units drop time is in twenty minutes." Wullf paused as he prepared to give his next set of instructions. "Please begin final check before we sortie and prepare personal weapons as well." Releasing the transmitter button Wullf sighed to himself, then he began giving orders again. "All units be aware that a small group of rebels has been spotted in the training area and if necessary we will engage the hostile force. Reports indicate that they are poorly equipped and at most they posses pre-First Valentine anti-tank weaponry; even still use caution if you engage the enemy. Base has only cleared us to engage them using personal weapons, I repeat engage with personal weapons only, no MW combat has been cleared; apparently someone in the brass wants to avoid any escalations through the use of mobile weapons. Once again, a local hostile force has been spotted and if necessary we will engage. This is not a drill people we will be firing live rounds at live people. Wullf out." With that Wullf removed his headset and began the ascent to his ZAKU's cockpit. With only a few more minutes Ahrend began to run through a final system check. Fortunately every system returned green and so his job became much simpler. Since he was still running off of the VoLPHAU's power all of the ZAKU's systems were up and interlinked with the transports, so he wasn't surprised when the captain's voice came on over the radio. Unit one to Foxtrot 01 we have reached the drop zone and going into hover. Opening back door in 3... 2... 1... mark." The VoLPHAU's rear hatch swung open and Ahrend was greeted by the Sun which would have blinded him if his ZAKU's cameras wouldn't have automatically adjusted to account for the glare. "Foxtrot 01," it was the captain again, "you may deploy at any... what the hell is that Allen?" Wullf noted the change in the captain's voice and immediately became concerned as he listened to their transmission. "I don't know, holy s*#@ they've locked on. F01 get out of there, s*#@ I've got smoke trails here." Wullf punched the transmit button for his squad's frequency. "F01 to all units emergency exit. Get the hell out of there!" Even as he spoke a shock rocked the VoLPHAU and if his ZAKU wouldn't have been secured in place it would have tumbled out of the transport. "All units assume that the LZ is hot and regroup at your fireteams secondary way point, further orders will follow from there." The only comfort that Ahrend took in this entire situation was that Laike's group was dropping several miles east of his; hopefully they wouldn't encounter the same problems he had but it was better to be safe than sorry. Wullf punched the emergency release button as literally slid out of the hanger as another blast rocked the VoLPHAU. Upon his exit Ahrend noticed the remnants from the surface to air missiles' smoke trails which led off to the north some ten or fifteen miles. Enjoying the fact that no one was shooting at him Wullf quickly reoriented his ZAKU to the sloped ground beneath him and landed with little difficulty after falling a few thousand feet. Surely their attackers had seen where they had bailed out and they'd be rushing any available units to their position. Wullf began to transmit over a secure channel, making sure that his scrambler was activated. "Kanto, the VoLPHAU will take care of itself for now begin moving to rally point Baker and we'll reorganize ourselves there." Rally point Baker was about seven miles to the south east and its most prominent feature was a waterfall, behind which was a large cave that they could take cover in; during the last war it had served as a secret outpost for ZAKU squads taking cover from AF patrols. Assuming that Kanto would follow him Wullf set out, putting his ZAKU into a run; after all he wanted to cover the distance quickly so that he could find some way to counter the insurgents. In his mind he began to formulate a plan, though he hesitated at the thought of what he might soon have to do. This was a training mission and he hadn't planned to do any killing; though combat and death often came when one least expected it.
MobileWeaponAce 0
Kanto had finished reading the top articles and was resting back in the cockpit when the VoLPHAU finally took off. The shaking of the entire unit is what woke him up and listening to the commanders orders he sat up in his seat and activated the systems to begin a diagnostic check. While it was running the different programs Kanto picked up his assault rifle and pulled the magazine out checking the bullet count, then he cocked back the hammer gazing down the barrel and no seeing any problem. Releasing the hammer a bullet slid into place and Kanto tucked the rifle back to the side and he did the same with his side arm. The diagnostic check came back all green and then the pilots voice came over the radio. Listening to the situation unfold Kanto thought to himself for a moment about what could happen. As the first missile rocked the transport it surprised Kanto a bit he didn't expect them to get hit so easily and as soon as the Wullf gave clearance Kanto disengaged the tethers from his Zaku and slid out the back of the transport. As soon as his Zaku cleared the VoLPHAU Kanto kicked on his boosters and began to fly in the direction of the rally point to slow his decent and give him some momentum as he neared the ground he skirted across the sand and eventually kicked off his boosters and began having his Zaku run towards rally point. Kanto reached around with his Zaku and pulled out the beam assault rifle just in case they were engaged by enemy mobile weapons during transit.
