Re: New Beginnings

”So that’s why this kid is in the military. He isn’t a normal natural… or is he even a natural at all?” Jayden asked himself as he closed his eyes, reflecting on his thoughts. Now the two began to speak as if they were long time friends… the Ensign and this “kid”. Honestly Jayden wasn’t into listening to this pointless chatter and was about to leave as he opened his eyes. However an opportunity presented itself as he opened his eyes. The female ensign had offered him a “shot” at one of the targets and frankly he thought of this as an opportunity to out shine her. He swiftly snatched the gun from her and began to spin it on his index finger while looking at the boy and beginning to speak.

”Maybe you’d hit the center if you closed your eye. An individual keeps the eye open that is closest to the gun in order to align himself perfectly with the target while he would close the eye that isn’t needed for the proper alignment with the target in order to become more fixated on the target and the target alone. Precise aim calls for such a thing. You have to block out everything around you and anything in your peripheral vision while focusing on nothing but the target. Otherwise your shots will be completely off… well I guess in your case only slightly off since you are some type of freak.” he said in the same deep and monotonous tone of voice that he used often. As he said the word freak he instantly stopped twirling the gun and began to aim it. However he aimed it right at the female ensign… Ms. Linite Estral.

Alexei: Sorry to disturb, but anyone here know, where Ensign Linite Estral ?”

It was all coming too quickly it seemed for the young ensign. A gun was pointed at her and now a man was at the door asking a question that might seem insignificant to a person with a gun pointed at them. But no, Jayden wasn’t going to even give her a chance to respond to what was going on. Instead he fired off the bullet... the well aimed bullet that moved so quickly toward Linite’s face. The bullet that narrowly missed her, the bullet that Jayden cleverly placed to get a rise out of the Ensign.

Jayden had hit his mark however. If one were to look at the target that he was “supposed” to shoot they would find that the bullet was currently embedded directly in the center of the head on the target. ”Guess I do make a pretty good sniper…” he thought as he flipped the gun around and held it out to her much like she did him all the while wondering what she would do next.

Sorry to disturb, but anyone here know, where Ensign Linite Estral is?

Linite quickly turned her head slightly to the side to take a look at the stranger who had just stepped into the room, while Jayden took the gun from her hand. Before she had any time to address him, the gun in Jayden’s hand was pointed directly at her face and a loud shot rang through the room. All Linite felt was a quick wisp of wind blow by her cheek, and she heard the tinkling of the bullet hitting the floor.

Stunned, all she could do was stare back at the gun which had just fired at her, and the soldier who had pulled the trigger.

Then, the whole room and everyone in it went completely silent. Everyone’s eyes were shifting from Linite to Jayden to the target which he had just hit without flaw. After a few moments, long enough for her shock to subside somewhat, Linite gently smiled and nodded her approval to Jayden. She could see the target which he had been aiming at reflected in the glass behind him.

Jayden Cross…you have damn good aim.” was all she could manage to say. She looked down at the gun, which was now being offered back to her, in the same fashion as she had offered it to Jayden. She gently pushed it back toward him, clearly showing that she was aware that Jayden had surpassed her in this area. Leaving him standing there, the gun still in his hand, she gave a brief glance at Locke, and then turned her attention to the newcomer.

I'm Ensign Linite Estral. Though I don't really feel worthy of such a title at the moment.” She laughed, holding her hand out to the newcomer in greeting. “I suppose you need to know where you're assigned dormitory is…” she told him, still thinking about what had happened just before…

If he had been called anything other than a freak there was no doubt Locke’s reaction to Jayden would have been merciless. If he didn’t have self-control he would have pulled out his own gun and shot Jayden in the head for pulling a gun like that on a superior officer. The nerve of some people.

Instead of acting rashly he simply huffed out a grunt as if the feat was nothing he wasn’t used to seeing. It may have been impressive but it was like he told Linite, “Like I said before…. Not bad for a natural…” Looking at Jayden he gave the man a stare that you wouldn’t expect from a kid his age, “do you feel that threatened by this freak that you had to pull a stunt like that?” He wanted to get under the man’s skin to see how much he could figure out about him. “I mean as far as you know I may very well be a natural who’s simply more skilled than you…” He kept his gaze at Jayden to see how he would react, he quietly hoped for an outburst to see how foolish he was.

“I’d appreciate it if you kept in mind your rank and position and give our superior officer some more respect, they don’t give ranks for nothing you know…” Even as he said it he barely realized he was acting like he did in ORB with Linite, for the life of him he had to wonder how he kept getting in that kind of situation. Is this how a sibling would act? It was a peculiar sensation for him, he personally never really felt like standing up for anyone before.

When he entered the room, he didn't believed his eyes: big, muscular man pointed out his gun on women, that wears EA uniform.

"These signs...wait, she is Ensign, that means... then why?...".

Then he noticed a boy, apparently between 14 and 15 years old.

"Why this boy inside pilots dorms? Is he pilot too? Then he should be..."

Loud noise distracted Alexei from his thoughts.

Man shooted from his pistol. But there wasn't any blood and women, altough more pale than she was, still stand tall.

"So it was just for show? Then where he aimed?"

Alexei noticed target on other side of fire range. Perfectly aimed hole in head.

"Great. This becoming more and more interesting! But why I so calm? Because this was unexpected or because this was extremely dangerous. And you need danger. As drug."

He smiled. He noticed something.

Jayden Cross…you have damn good aim.” said Ensign.

"So his name Jayden Cross. Worth remembering"

Alexei waited till Ensign say something to him.

"I'm Ensign Linite Estral. Though I don't really feel worthy of such a title at the moment. I suppose you need to know where you're assigned dormitory is…

She laughed, holding her hand out to the Alexei in greeting.

"She beautiful at more closer look, hehe. Let's do something...unusual"

"This is a pleasure of my. I didn't expect someone as beautiful as you to be in such...cruel place."

With these words he kissed her hand.

"You shouldn't be ashamed. You rather should be proud that such great shooter is your subordinate. Altough I think, that you too noticed deadly mistake that he made, isn't it?"

“I’d appreciate it if you kept in mind your rank and position and give our superior officer some more respect, they don’t give ranks for nothing you know…” said boy. Alexei didn't hear his talk with Jayden as he pretending to flirt with Ensign.

"Boy, you should at least show some respect to someone who bigger, stronger and before all, older than you. He is not YOUR subordinate, so please, be more calm. Don't try to act as commander - this too form of disrespect, you know."

Alexei turned his attention again on Ensign.

"Oh, I'm almost forgot. I suppose, you need these documents."

Linite: “Jayden Cross…you have damn good aim.”

”Damn good aim…” he thought as he stood confused that the gun was being offered back to him. He didn’t know what to do or say, she was complimenting him when he went out of his way to deliberately piss her off. Instead she seemed impressed by it rather than disturbed by it however she was not the only one watching at the time and she wasn’t the only one impressed by it… not to mention the one who was disgusted by it.

As the small boy began to berate Jayden for his actions, he began to laugh as he gently took the gun from Linite’s hands. For once his serious persona had vanished as the child tried to give Jayden some type of lecture.  ”I don’t feel threatened by freaks… Besides you are just a child and the only reason why they would place a child in the military is if he wasn’t a natural. Many of Earth Alliance officials believe that their tampering with a human body will produce a superior soldier. They will even go to such lengths as to place an innocent little freak in the middle of a battlefield just to see how he would react without proper reasoning. Does that sound familiar? It should…” he calmly said as he looked down at the boy.

Locke: “I’d appreciate it if you kept in mind your rank and position and give our superior officer some more respect, they don’t give ranks for nothing you know…”

”You know wha-“

?:"Boy, you should at least show some respect to someone who bigger, stronger and before all, older than you. He is not YOUR subordinate, so please, be more calm. Don't try to act as commander - this too form of disrespect, you know."

Before Jayden could speak the man who had just arrived abruptly interrupted the conversation. However it seemed that this man saw things similarly to how Jayden saw them. The boy was in a place where he shouldn’t be and he should keep his mouth shut, like any other child.

At the time, Jayden was speechless. He maintained a calm look and his eyes began to shift between each of the people in the room.

Linite was taken aback by what Locke had just said. His remarks had been like those of someone her age. It was exactly like what had happened in ORB when she had encountered that ZAFT officer. Then she remembered something that Jayden had said before, that she hadn’t quite taken in. “Some type of freak” She repeated what Jayden had said in her mind as she stared at Locke, whose words made complete sense to her now.

Her thoughts were interrupted as the new soldier began to speak to her.

"This is a pleasure of my. I didn't expect someone as beautiful as you to be in such...cruel place."

With these words he kissed her hand.

Linite’s eyebrows raised as the newcomer kissed her hand, as if they were at a formal dance. She felt sudden warmth in her cheeks as he did so. It was embarrassing to have this happen in such a place. Linite was most definitely caught off-guard at that moment, and he spoke again.

"You shouldn't be ashamed. You rather should be proud that such great shooter is your subordinate. Although I think, that you too noticed deadly mistake that he made, isn't it?"

Linite rapidly regained her composure and gently adjusted her hand so that she was shaking hands with the new soldier, and then pulled it away, placing it instead on her hip. She raised one eyebrow and smirked as she looked back at Jayden.

I suppose you’re right. After all, we need skills like that in the EA, if we hope to last in combat situations. And though it was impressive, I hope you do realize the caliber of danger your action just displayed, Jayden Cross. I hope you’ll know not to do that again, for your own good. I’d rather not spend my time lecturing you.

It should…”

Linite had just about lost it with Jayden by this point. All this time she had tried to keep her cool, but couldn’t retain her frustration any longer.

Jayden Cross, That’s enough! How dare you disrespect your fellow soldiers and your superiors like that! How could you even suggest such a thing about anybody?! And if you think such negative things about this military, then I’d certainly like to know why you joined!” Linite had decided that it was her turn to stand up for Jonathan as he had for her.  She couldn’t let Jayden continue to behave in such a defiant manner, either.

Step out of line once more and I’ll have you deal with higher authorities. Then you can give them your attitude and see where it gets you.

Linite glared at Jayden, giving clear signs with her expression that she was serious. After what seemed like an eternity, she broke her gaze and addressed the new soldier once again.

Yes, the documents. I’m sorry I wasn’t easier to find, I should’ve expected that there’d be latecomers.

  • 3 weeks later...

Locke quickly grew bored of the situation and shrugged everything off. He adjusted the gun in his holster and simply turned to walk away. There was only so much he was willing to deal with when it came to foolish allies. Besides it wasn’t worth him loosing his cool to get into such a heated debate. He existed for a purpose that was beyond his control he had long grown to accept his fate.

“I’ll see you on the battlefield Jayden Cross…” he casually waved goodbye not even bothering to look at anyone in the room. “and thank you for the practice Ensign Estral…” He didn’t even bother acknowledging the newcomer, he figured that if any of them would be important to him in the future then he would have plenty of time to straighten things out.

There had to be something less stressful and more exciting to do on the base.

Jayden’s mind seemed to close itself off as his facial expression changed to one of a surprised and confused look. He didn’t want to answer the question and even if he wanted to answer the question he couldn’t even find the words to describe this type of feeling. Everything he had lost, everything he wanted to get back, his desires as a pilot and his vengeful plot against the coordinators all ran through his mind as this woman berated him. It seemed as if he didn’t care about any previous or proceeding statements. The only statement he cared about… the only thing that rung in the boy’s mind was “why he joined the military”. With so many answers to this very simple question he began to cower in fear at the question. He backed into the wall completely speechless and dropped the gun that he once held tightly in his hands onto the floor.

Grabbing his head and closed his eyes as he began to sweat and before you knew it he had began to slowly slide down the wall until he sat on the floor desperately trying to regain his composure. His mind seemed closed off from reality and he was trapped within his own subconscious… for the time being anyways.

"Infantile and arrogant...too early for military...he's definitely Coordinator..." - thought Alexei, while boy almost ran out of room.

"This can become a real problem in future... he's too much short-tempered...""

"It seems, Jayden really pissed off Ensign. Well, at some point he deserv...Huh?"

Alexei saw as Jayden backed into the wall and dropped the gun. He grabbed his head and closed his eyes.

"Great!" - unintentionally said Alexei. He looked on Linite.

"I suppose, you just now had your little "revenge". Let's hope that he's not Extended and this is just mental breakdown. I understand, that you're my superior, but I think that you should check his documents. Because if he IS Extended, then we're in , I beg your pardon, big shit. I'll try to calm him, but than quicker you get his documents, then better!" - said newcomer with commanding voice, while heading to Jayden.

"She's your superior, maniac. You just ruined your whole image. You what, forget, that even ex-students of MMA in OMNI start from private? You're not officer, dammit. You're going under tribunal. Damned traditional teaching." - Alexei remembered, that altough MMA was considered as school for officers, if they joined not national military, but OMNI, they should have start from lowest rank.

"OK, calm down. Maybe I'm not his superior, but he's my comrade. And I don't think, that if someone who doubt in me can cover my back in battle. Let's consider this help as ...um, greeting."

"Hey, man, what's wrong with you? She didn't want to kill you, she just asked, why did you join military. This is not so hard question. Calm down. You wanted to get revenge for your family? Or you wanted to protect something important? Or you just love guns and cannons ? Or Mobile Suits? Don't lose yourself. I saw your marksmanship. Altough you should have aimed in torso or left shoulder, but beside that you very good at sniping. I suppose, you didn't trained for nothing, right?" - as he talked, he sit near.

"Let's hope that this won't take long."

“Here is your room Mr. Crevecoeur,” squeaked the voice of a young recruit who had been ordered to escort the newly arrived soldier to his dormitory. “Is there anything else you need?”

“That depends. Are you eighteen yet?” asked Yuri with a sly grin.

“No,” the girl replied with slight quiver in her voice, “I… I’m only sixteen.”

“Sixteen huh?” he sighed, “well, tart is tart I guess.”

After this was said, a long awkward moment of silence ensued.

“Hey, Would you look at the time,” the girl said without even looking at her watch, “I got to go. I’m uhhh… late for a meeting.” She reached into her pocket and pulled out what looked to be a credit card.  “Here’s your keycard. Please enjoy your stay. Bye.” With that she turned around and ran down the corridor. After a few seconds she rounded a corner and was gone.

“Damn,” groaned Yuri, “can’t a guy get a break around here?” He swiped the card through the scanner and the door opened with a light clicking noise. He walked in and grinned when he saw the room was vacant, happy at the fact that he didn’t have to share it with anyone. After throwing his duffel bag on the bed, he began to undress. For the past two days he had gone through the numerous health exams required by the Earth Alliance health board. When he had signed up, he had been told that he would have to undergo several physical exams. However, at that time he had no clue what physical was. When the male doctor began the exam, Yuri had to restrain himself from reaching out and snapping the doctor’s neck. Yuri hated being touched by other men in that way. It brought back painful memories and he needed to take a shower in order to wash those memories away.

After getting completely undressed, he wrapped a towel around his waist and headed for the men’s shower. He turned on the shower and dropped his towel to the ground. Then he stepped under the flowing water and washed away the scent of the doctor. For fifteen minutes he roughly scrubbed his skin with a soap bar before rinsing off . He dried off and headed back to his room. He once again swiped the card through the scanner and disappeared into the darkness of the small room.

Several minutes later he re-emerged from the darkness, wearing a pair of loose fitting blue jeans and a wife beater (a white A-shirt). He had his sidearm tucked into his waistband near the small of his back. His wet, black hair lay flat (he was too lazy to re-spike it), his bangs covering his scarlet eyes.

“Ahhh… that feels much better,” he sighed as he took out a pack of Hi-lites, removed a cigarette, and lit it up. “Now if only I could find a vending machine.” He then began to explore the facility, looking for something to drink. As he walked through the corridors, he chuckled at every “No Smoking” sign he passed. After what seemed like hours, he finally came across a Coke machine near the firing range.

“Ah, here we go,” he smiled as he pulled a crumpled up credit out of his pocket. He un-crinkled the credit and put it in the coke machine. “All right then, one Coke please,” he said to himself as he as he pushed the button. The machine’s display flashed a reassuring “thank you”, but nothing came out. “God Damn it! Don’t do this to me you stupid machine.” He once again pushed the button, but this time the machines display flashed “Please insert one credit”.

With this, Yuri’s nostrils flared, his hand clenched into a fist, and his native tongue let loose with the fury of a thousand demons. “Vous morceau de merde bon pour rien morceau d'ordure ! Vous mangez mon dernier dollar foutu et pensez que vous allez partir avec lui ! Vous êtes dedans pour une grande déception foutue toi morceau de merde inutile ! Maintenant, donnez-moi ma mère droite foutue de soude baisant maintenant !” he shouted as he punched the vending machine with all his might.

*THUNK*  The familiar sound of a soda falling into the receiving bin brought a victorious smile to his face. He reached into the bin, “Sweet! A two-fer!” he exclaimed as he pulled out the two sodas. He opened one of the cans, and was about to take a sip when he heard four shots from the firing range. These shots were then followed by another. He turned to look towards the firing range entrance, and saw a man running in. As he began walking towards the entrance, he heard another shot. He approached the entrance and peered into the room. He saw three males along with one female. He then listened to the argument that ensued. A moment later, the young blonde soldier who had been the topic of the argument exited. Yuri watched as the man who he recognized as the antagonist collapse to the floor; the others then began yelling at him. By the time he witnessed this, the boy with the blonde hair passed by Yuri in the hall.

“Hey,” Yuri said as the boy passed, “catch.” He tossed his extra can of soda to the boy. “Don’t let that ass-hole’s words get to you,” he stated in a serious tone as he removed his sidearm from his waistband. Without even looking at the target he squeezed off four rounds. All four of the bullets hit the Bull’s-eye within a one millimeter spread. “Us freaks need to stick together," he said with a grin as he looked at the young soldier, "right?”

A puzzled look crossed Locke’s face as a can flew through the air towards him. He almost didn’t catch it but barely managed to use his reflexes to save the drink. Regaining his solid posture he turned his attention to the man who tossed him the drink.

The man wore rather relaxed clothing; by the looks of it he just got out of the shower. Locke didn’t recall seeing the man before; perhaps he was more absorbed into his previous conversation than he wanted to admit. Shaking the thought from his head he focused on what the guy told him, “Us freaks need to stick together, right?”

Tapping the top of the lid with his finger he opened the soda and took a sip, after a moment he gasped after tasting the soda and nodded, “So you’re a freak too huh?” He glanced back at the room with disgust then looked back at the guy. “At least we have the common sense to realize that…” shifting the can in his hands he extended his right hand, “Jonathan Locke… 87th special forces…” as he offered his hand to shake he wondered what this guy’s story was, the tattoo on his forehead raised more than a few questions.

Yuri inquisitively looked at the boy’s hand. He had no idea what the boy had outstretched it for, since he had ever been shown any ounce of affection in his life. Rather than ask about this gesture, he simply replied, “Yuri Crevecoeur. Likewise.” As his unenthusiastic reply suggested, he had already grown bored of the situation. Suddenly, his stomach let out a large growl. It had been a while since he had eaten, in fact, it had been three days. The reason for this was that during his physicals, the doctor had him abstain from ingesting anything but water.

“Damn! I’m starving,” Yuri abruptly stated. “I don't know my way around this base yet, so would you mind escorting me to the cafeteria?"
