Hasty Preparations

[OOC: From 'Fiction and Reality.']

As Demetrius entered the base, he winded his way through until he reached one of the large mobile suit hangars.  He arrived just in time to see crews supervising the transport of the Astray Divers to Orb's 3rd Naval Fleet's Takemikazuchi-class carrier.  The immediate area was bustling with additional activity as this last-minute move forced everyone to take action.

After making some inquiries and personal inspections, he left the men to complete their assigned duties.  He quickly went back to his room to pack his things into a plain-looking duffel.  Though his position as a representative allowed for him to have an orderly, he politely refused since he'd preferred to deal with things directly.  It was not a matter of being stubborn as it was for taking personal responsibility for his duties.  As he returned to the hangar, a VTOL landed nearby.  He knew that the VTOL was there to transport his delegation and himself to the carrier once everything was ready.  The 3rd Fleet would be escorting them while running their usual patrol route near the Equatorial Union.  Only the carrier and an Aegis-class cruisers would directly dock at Rangoon.

He quickly made his way to a secure console and sent an encrypted e-mail to President de Silva about the sudden 'meeting' before he walked back outside.  All that was left was to wait for his 'troops' and for the preparations to be complete.

[OOC: as promised =] ]

About ten minutes ago Janus had heard the notice for departure. She was still eating her breakfast at the time and when alerted, decided to quickly gobble down her remaining raisin toast, followed by a cup of orange juice from the vending machine she'd bought. She always disliked drinking plain water. Janus chucked her foam cup in the empty morning bin on the way out of the cafeteria.

In her dorm, several of her room mates had already packed and were about to leave. Silence pursued when she stepped in. Janus had only just completed training but for some unknown reason, she'd been shuffle around different rooms since her arrival. She never got a long enough stay to properly get to know the seven other individuals.

They left, and Janus quickly shoved whatever she needed in the given duffel. Out of habit, she rechecked everything especially for the tags she'd always kept.

She made her way to the hangar, duffel over her shoulder, and somewhat rushing her pace. Upon arrival she took no time to look around the hangar and headed straight to the first lieutenant. Janus placed her sack down and saluted her superior

"Reporting for duty. Sir." Janus informed. She didn't know what 'duty' she was reporting in for and she was in no mood to shout the question over the noisy bustling of mechanics and technicians.

[From 'Fiction and reality ']

Things were obviously more hectic for Hinako, for the reason that she is basically some distance away from the base before she was being notified of the changes in location and all the other news that she was to absorb into her brain within seconds. That would mean dropping what she is doing, and immediately return to base to pack up things for the 'mission', if that word was any indication of what she will face soon.

Not having any time to waste, she immediately aim her next destination to the Orb base. The trip there was short, but what she have to do next is not...without fail, she managed to slot the key in, open the door, and close it in a matter of seconds without delays or anything to go with it. Probably she have perfected the 'art of quick door opening', but it was nothing more than a way to quickly hide herself in the room if curfew was in place.

She basically lives in the room alone. Without a word, she takes her shoes off, and open her wardrobe, and took out the Orb uniform, since many a question will be raised if she continued wearing the civilian attire she was wearing now. She immediately changes to the Orb uniform in the short time and put on a pair of black thigh-highs which ends up right beneath the Orb skirt, before she quickly take a short look at the mirror, before tying the hair into a ponytail. Packing everything she ever needed into the plain duffel, she checked the contents, before giving the all-clear to herself to leave.

Quickly, Hinako made her way to the hangar, lugging the duffel with her left hand. She passed through the waves of technicians and mechanics who are currently preparing all they have to prepare for this, as everything is being loaded and unloaded into the carriers. She did not have any time for this, after seeing that the First Lieutenant and another female personnel are already waiting.

She made her way through the human traffic, before having herself in front of the First Lieutenant.

"Sergeant Shirakawa reporting for duty, sir," she put the duffel down before saluting the First Lieutenant in a no-nonsense tone.

[OOC: I think you two are it. :/ ]

Demetrius turned and returned both young woman's salutes.  He was already familiar with Sergeant Shirakawa but he only knew Private Matsuo based on her record during training.  He chose her though because she was competent and loyal.  Another reason was to get new recruits like her exposed to duties beyond a typical soldier.

He quickly waved them outwards, away from the VTOL and hangar so they could hear him.  He smiled slightly as he replied, "Thank you for arriving on time, Sergeant, Private.  I know you've been given the basic details, Sergeant, but I'll go through everything for review and for Private Matsuo's benefit.

"This military delegation is to go to the military headquarters of the Equatorial Union at Rangoon.  We will be displaying the Astray Diver as a prelude to the sharing of such technology especially given the lack of military strength in the Union.  The 3rd Naval Fleet will escort and transfer the Divers over.  However, due to some changes, delegations from the Kingdom of Scandanavia and possibly the United States of South America may arrive to observe the proceedings," Demetrius said though he didn't say anything about the NOVA meeting, since it was on a need to know basis.

He leafed through some more papers and looked up at Hinako, "Sergeant, I know your experience with the Diver is very limited but I would request that you participate in the actual demonstration.  But for extra measures, I also had the mechanics transfer our Murasames over to the carrier."

Then he turned toward Janus, "Private, because this is your first outside excursion, remember our doctrine 'Every soldier is Orb.  I want you there as an observer and as an impromptu security detail but do not do anything that would endanger our nation."

He said the above in a matter-of-factly manner, rather than with an edge, since he'd rather not treat subordinates like idiots.  He looked over and watched as the large cargo transport took off to deliver the Divers.  He gestured toward the VTOL and said, "Okay, let's be on our way."

[OOC: damn .>" title="" /> only us?! *sigh*]

Before long, another member arrived. Janus peered sideways out of curiosity but quickly looked back at the lieutenant after hearing that the other female was a sergeant.

The lieutenant returned their salutes and signaled them to just outside the hangar. Janus picked up her duffel again and rigidly followed after the sergeant.

'ah quietness', Janus exhaled as they met up with the lieutenant outside. She was about to ask as to what they were to be doing when the lieutenant smiled, "Thank you for arriving on time, Sergeant, Private.  I know you've been given the basic details, Sergeant, but I'll go through everything for review and for Private Matsuo's benefit.

Had Janus felt more comfortable around her two superiors, she'd thanked him straigh off.

However, due to some changes, delegations from the Kingdom of Scandinavia and possibly the United States of South America may arrive to observe the proceedings."

'oh so the plans were moved forward,' Janus thought in realization.

The lieutenant assigned the sergeant to piloting the new model. Janus had grown bored of the simulations for training and wanted badly to pilot a real mobile suit, but she gave a slight sigh at thought of her unattained license.

Janus was then address, "Private, because this is your first outside excursion, remember our doctrine 'Every soldier is Orb'.  I want you there as an observer and as an impromptu security detail but do not do anything that would endanger our nation."

Janus replied with certainty, "Of course Sir!" and gave another salute without much thought in the action. She was set on never misrepresenting Orb and serving her country to the fullest of her abilities, but there will be situations where she might unknowingly do something...

The lieutenant began making his way back inside. Janus followed.

Of course, the reason she wanted to be there earlier is to get the details, as to what is the cause of the sudden change in schedule and all the glitz having to do with the little visit to Europe. Now, seeing that it is only the three of them, that is, the First Lieutenant, a private and herself, she tried to see if there is any others out there yet, but it does not seem to indicate anything. She quickly moved to the First Lieutenant, to listen to whatever he have to say about all this.

She stood there, quietly listening to the details given by the First Lieutenant Amherst on the visit to the Equatorial Union. Of course, it is not only the representatives from the Kingdom of Scandinavia, it was very clear that representatives from the United States of South America might drop in for a visit. What does this tells her is not clear, although she hope that nothing would happen during the visit, since she have heard of the situation between USSA and the Atlantic Federation regarding their 'relationship', which, according to history, was non-existent.

She can take up some of the details...until the First Lieutenant mentioned something to her.

"Sergeant, I know your experience with the Diver is very limited but I would request that you participate in the actual demonstration.  But for extra measures, I also had the mechanics transfer our Murasames over to the carrier."

"I would do my best to handle the Astray Divers, sir," Hinako saluted, and replied with a monotonous tone, and tried to use the words she have carefully, since some superiors did not like the use of 'I will try my best' in conversations.

Overhearing the line the First Lieutenant passed to the private, Hinako just sighed at the prospect of having to do more than just a simple mobile suit demonstration.

After everything is over, she sees that they are being gestured into the VTOL. Dragging her feet, she slowly moves to the VTOL, knowing very well that running while wearing skirts would be very 'unladylike'.

  • 2 weeks later...

[OOC: If I'm not supposed to be here, tell me so, and delete this. I really have no idea what I'm doing.  And if it is right, I hope I did a good job]

Alana hung around outside on of the mobile suit hangers, leaning against a wall ass she listened to loud rock music blaring into her ears from her headphones. She nodded her head in time with the beat, watching everything that was going on with a half-hearted interest.

I’m part of the FREE Forces now. Just great, more rules. I really hate rules. That’s such a waste of time. Basically, they just want a lid on anyone who joins. Not that I mind anymore. I mean, rules just bore me to death, but that’s what they want, so they’ll get it. They expect too much of people here. What a drag…

Letting that thought leave her mind, she closed her eyes, losing herself in the music. She loved rock music; the way the beat just got lost in all the other sounds. It soothed her, and it always had. Her lips began moving, mouthing the words to the song as she ran thought her mental plans for the day.

Okay private, time to check the mental day planner for today. Get up: check. Eat: check. Sneak out to stare at the mobile suits: check. Get to my assignment on time: Did I do that yet? No, I think that was next on my list.

She let lout a long sight before looking down at her watch. Listening to music really distracted her, and she could even forget where she was at times. According to the watch, she was late. Very late. If she didn’t hurry, they’d leave without her. Rolling her eyes with a groan, she ran off, scanning everything with her eyes as she did. She wasn’t very familiar with the place, so she had almost no idea where she was going. Then she spotted it: the VTOL; where she should have been.

Running over in that direction, she saw three people; the first lieutenant being one of them. She made her way towards him, pulling up quickly.

“Reporting for…duty…sir,” she panted, managing to blurt the words out as she gasped for breath, “Sorry…if I’m…late.”

She finally caught her breath, laughing sheepishly, giving them an embarrassed smile.

I’m so dead for this. My first assignment, even though I don’t know what it is, and I’ve already messed up. I’m really going to get it for this; either now or later. All I know is, I’m in for it anyway.

[OOC: You're doing fine, don't worry about it.]

He nodded in reply to Private Matsuo's enthusiastic response and replied to Sergeant Shirakawa, "Of course."

As Demetrius approached the VTOL, he heard rapid footfalls heading in their direction.  He turned around just in time to find a young woman in a FREE Forces uniform, looking winded as she obviously ran all the way here as she blurted out a brief apology.  Then he remembered that another newly enlisted Private was assigned to his group.  He wondered at Command's decision of putting new personnel right into a diplomatic and military mission of importance.

He smiled slightly as he quickly decided how to respond.  It was obvious she was late and given the rigorous discipline of FREE Forces personnel, that would've earned her a reprimand at the very least.  But then again, she had already gone through training and it was her first day on official duty.

He shook his head slightly to show a slight hint of disapproval but nothing more than that as he held his smile and replied, "Better late than never, Private...Matthews.  I hope you have your things with you since we'll be heading to the carrier that will take us to Rangoon, the military headquarters of the Equatorial Union.  Private Matsuo, if you could be so kind as to fill Private Matthews in on the details, including your potential duties in which you will share."

Then as he approached the VTOL, he gestured to them as he allowed them to enter first.

[OOC: Understood *salute*]

"Understood Sir," Janus replied, taking on the lieutenant’s request.

Janus didn't think much of the late arrival, but they fact that the private had earphones on was a bad enough detail that worried Janus. She frowned at the thought of her new comrade appearing like this in presence of the important entities during the mission.

'Every soldier is Orb!', Janus had lived by this rule ever since her admiration for the previous Chief Representative developed in early childhood. Mathew's appearance made the impression that she didn't want to be here. 'Regardless of reason, I'll be sure to talk to her about this later...'

As they began following their superior to the VTOL, Janus briefed Private Mathews on their responsibilities.

"As you already heard, we're heading to the military headquarters of Equatorial union at Rangoon. Sergeant Shirakawa will be assisting in the demonstration of our Astray Divers. Our priority is the security of this demonstration and of the possible appearance of members from Scandinavia and South America. We will be alert at all times during this mission."

Janus realized she sounded more authoritative than friendly, but she did not try to change her expression. It was built into her that she was not to appear weak in presence of anyone. Little did she realize that Lieutenant Amherst had stepper out of the lead and given way for them to board first...

[OOC: Wait, so is my post last?]

Alana let out a silent sigh of relief. She was safe, for now. It seemed that way, at least. The first lieutenant was letting her off this time.

“Private Matsuo, if you’d be so kind as to fill Private Matthews in on the details, including you potential duties in which you will share,” he finished.

Looking away from the lieutenant, she saw he was addressing another, very boyish person, whom she figured would be Private Matsuo. The other private agree, turning to Alana. From that first moment, she knew this was going to be a long assignment.

Private Matsuo was frowning at her, right off the bat. She couldn’t figure out why, but it was probably for a number of reasons. Alana had been late and, in the process, intruded on this person’s supposed solitary duties, whatever they were. Matsuo probably didn’t think much of her anyway. Looking the other private over once, she realized she didn’t think much of Matsuo either. At least there was some mutual understanding between them now.

Alana listened carefully to what the private was telling her, but her main attention was focused on Matsuo’s actions and speech. She was still frowning and she had a boyish voice, for a girl. Hearing another name, a sergeant’s name, she looked at the women dressed in the uncomfortable skirt.

Looks like she’s having some problems with that. Now, what is it that Matsuo’s concerned about? I mean, I’m in uniform, right?

Looking down, she gave her uniform a quick once over. She was wearing everything she should. Then she noticed her headphones were still over her ears. Poking herself lightly on the forehead, she pulled them off and stuck them into her bag. That must have been it. She had been in such a hurry; she had forgotten the headphones were still on.

It was suddenly quiet; Matsuo had finished talking. Taking in all her words, Alana nodded a silent reply. Looking over at the Lieutenant, she noticed that he was letting them board first.

“You know you sound like a guy,” she told Matsuo quietly, “And, if you have a problem with me, I’d prefer that you say it to may face. There’s less tension that way.”

Smiling mischievously, she walked away from Matsuo to the VTOL, saluted the Lieutenant, and boarded.

[OOC: yessssssss :D" title="Evil" /> I'll do a really quick one cause I do have something to say just not something big ]

“You know you sound like a guy.” her female comrade said in almost a whisper. Janus nodded without looking back at her. It was a fact Janus had went with since the first misunderstanding over the phone happened several years back. It had always been more of a laughing matter to Janus, but over time it began having its slight psychological effects.

Mathews continued, “and, if you have a problem with me, I’d prefer that you say it to may face. There’s less tension that way.”

Janus registered this after the private began to walk away.

'the n...'

Janus wasn't in the mood to go around the matter. Instead she caught up with Mathews and replied her in a quite loud and blunt tone, "Nothing's the problem, just that your care for this mission and ultimately this country doesn't show"

With that Janus took the lead and rushed off before the conversation could be continued further. She'd forgotten the corridors echo...

[OOC: ok now that's it onto EU!!!! That's alright liubei you can start when you're less tired]
