Operation Red Sun (fireminerva vs. MobileWeaponAce)

He hadn't been waiting long but Ahrend was already beginning to grow impatient.  His opponent should have been here early so that the battle could begin without a hitch but then again, maybe Ahrend was just being unreasonable.  In the heat of the Australian desert it was hard to know what was what and mirages appeared frequently on the horizon which only added to his frustration.

His sensors showed that the outside temperature had climbed up to 44.5 degrees and Ahrend was only consoled by the cool air that his MS was blowing on him right now.

Finally his scanners picked up movement and Ahrend opened up a channel reserved solely for arena pilots.

"I'm glad to see that you've finally made it."

“I'm glad to see you finally made it.”

Kanto cracked a grin as his Slash Zaku Warrior entered the battlefield his beam assault rifle twirling on the middle finger of his right hand the ammo disc still clipped to the side of the gun. Moving to the top of one of the dunes so he can get a visual of the opponent. Looking down spots the GuAIZ R not to far in the distance.

“Lets see if Fortune can stand against the Black Wolf shall we?”

Stops the spinning of the gun the momentum of the stop forces the ammo disc to fold up to active position and a display inside the cockpit registers that the gun has full ammunition. Kanto runs a final check of primary and secondary systems and changes the Zaku to combat operations. Kanto would have to watch the temperature gages if he used his boosters to much he might overheat and burn out some systems.

“Kanto Weyth, Slash Zaku Warrior, ready for battle.”

Spins the two massive Gatling guns on his shoulders signifying his anxiousness and readiness to fight.

As the battle began Ahrend was already sure of his first move.  Havign sized up his enemy, and deciding that they were far too close, Ahrend pushed forward the throttle on his GuAIZ R and sent himself flying backwards, putting several hundred meters between him and his opponent.

With that out of the way Ahrend activated the GuAIZ R's two Pollux IX railguns.  With the target cursors coming up green on his screen Ahrend only needed to wait and adapt to his enemy's move.  It was almost like playing cat and mouse and unfortunately for his opponent Ahrend was a very patient man.

Kanto was sure that he could do what needed to be done now. The massive arm of the Zaku leveled the assault rifle at his enemy and with the left hand gripped the secondary handle for stability.

Kanto begins to release several 5 round volleys from his assault rifle towards his opponent while he ignites his booster for a moment and leaned back on the stick sliding his Zaku backward down the dune firing the whole way down.

Reaching the base of the dune he holds for a moment to let his gun cool down having fired a total of 25 shots he didn't want to overheat the gun yet. Kanto liked his position the dune providing cover between him and his opponent.

With so much distance between him and his enemy Ahrend easily moved out of the way of the shots the ZAKU had fired, using his thrusters to carry him far to the right of where the beams went.  As he moved through the air Ahrend fired three short bursts from his 76mm CIWS into the sand.  The clouds that were kicked up as a result would obscure him from his opponent's vision and Ahrend used the time to continue circling right.  Here the sand dunes were much steeper and rocks from some ancient worn away mountain would hide him from his enemy's sight.

Ahrend continued quickly until he had moved ninety degrees from his original position, putting him to the ZAKU's right.  While he was still 200 meters from his target Ahrend recognized that his position was a bit of a risky one, 'Even though he can't see me I can't see him either.'  Popping up above the dunes Ahrend took aim with his beam rifle, locking onto the ZAKU's torso and fired off a shot.  Almost immediately he was on the move again, heading back in the direction he had come from.

OOC - Sorry about taking so long busy at work

IC - Kanto didn't expect his first couple of shots to hit but he cursed himself inside anyways. Waiting for his enemy to make a mistake Kanto watched as his opponent kicked up some sand in an attempt to hide his movement. Kanto traced his opponent's movements with his beam rifle and losing him behind a dune switched back to main camera to see his opponent launch himself and fire a shot.

Kanto ignites his boosters and swerves forward avoiding the lone shot. Seeing his opponent on the move again Kanto ignites his boosters again and begins to move towards his opponents projected destination in an attempt to cut him off. As he glides across the sand lowers his shield to cover his torso and fires off his "Hydra" beam gatling cannons and beam rifle to lay some cover fire. As he nears his opponent at 30 meters drops the beam rifle into the sand and whips his beam axe out from his back locking it into position the beams on both sides of the blades igniting.

OOC - Could you please clarify what you mean by "whips his beam axe out from his back locking it into position the beams on both sides of the blades igniting."  You've drawn out one ax but the way the end of your sentence is structured it seems like there are two.  Also, what do you mean by locking it into position?

As he gets within 20 meters the beams on both sides of the weapon igniting.

As the ZAKU streaked towards him and dropped its beam rifle Wullf's GuAIZ R did the same.  Dropping the heavy rifle onto the sand the GuAIZ R drew out its green beam saber and ignited the weapon with stunning results.  Raising up his shield to cover the left side of his MW's body Ahrend held the saber in a defensive position, running diagonally from the right side of the GuAIZ R's torso to its left shoulder.

With a clever thought suddenly popping into his brain Ahrend squeezed the trigger on his right flight yoke sending out a burst of 76mm bullets from his CIWS aimed as the ZAKU's neck area.  With any luck he might get a hit on the main camera.

Kanto dropped his Zaku to one knee the bullets tearing through the top of his Zaku's head blowing off the helmet but lucky sparing the main camera for the time being. Before the helmet piece could hit the sand the Zaku was making it's next move the G7 beam axe in his right hand he drives his left shoulder spiked shield and all upwards towards the chest of the GuAIZ R attempting to pin the enemies beam saber with it. Kanto hoped that the momentum of the impact along with some help from Kanto could take the axe over the enemies head the beam of the axe going directed diagonally across the enemies back.

The repetition of impacts shakes the wiring loose from his Zaku's head and the pink light indicating the status of the main camera faded out. “Damn” Kanto cursed to himself now only being able to rely on his two side camera's to try and finish this battle. He hoped that his axe could at the very least take off an arm. Kanto hit his boosters again and tried to fly backwards dragging the shaft and head of his beam axe over his opponents shoulder.

Shifting the weight of his GuAIZ R onto it's right foot, so that the MS was no leaning away from the charging ZAKU, Ahrend slammed a button on the side of his controls causing the GuAIZ R's shield to burst from its mount point.  As the ejecting shield took the brunt of the weight from the ax it slammed back into the GuAIZ R's left arm causing the suit to shudder.  Ahrend let the momentum push the suit over and it landed on its right side while the ZAKU sailed over top of him.

Firing his engines again Ahrend put the GuAIZ R's back into the sand and shot along the desert floor until he had gained about 50 meters of distance, at which time he stood up.  With the ZAKU's back to him Ahrend activated the GuAIZ R's railguns and fired a volley.

The two rounds from the rail guns landed squarely on the back of the Zaku and launched him forward and the Zaku slid down one of the dunes. As the alerts were going off Kanto struggled to gain control of the lumbering suit and ejected the wizard pack flipping off of it as he was sliding down the dune. Quickly snatching up the thermite incendiary grenade activating it and tossed it into the smoking wizard pack.

The explosion from the grenade and wizard pack explosion visible over the dune. Hoping the enemy would drop his guard at the thought of having destroyed his enemy, Kanto got into a position against the dune so that when the GuAIZ R came to investigate Kanto would be behind his enemy and better able to make an attack in his damaged state. Going based on this assumption Kanto grabbed the flash grenade in his left and held fast to his G7 beam ax in his right prepared to use both.

Aside from the fact that he'd scored another hit Ahrend was actually a little worried about this battle.  As the ZAKU went down and slid out of side Ahrend dashed forward, retracting his railguns, and picked up his discarded weapon and his shield which, though battered, would still serve some purpose in his defense.  Locking the shield back in place Ahrend was storing the beam saber when and explosion rocked the ground in his area and in keeping with his curious nature Ahrend decided to check it out.

Though deaths were uncommon in the arena sometimes things just went bad so it was time to go and see.  'Funny that there's no statement being made by the referee.'  Still Ahrend pressed forward, obligation to check on his fellow pilot forced him to run his GuAIZ R forward even though he kept its shield raised and its weapon at the ready.

This was it if Kanto could pull this off it would be match. He disengaged the blades on his G7 beam ax and lay in wait. His breath quickened as he saw the GuAIZ R begin to run down the dune passing past his Zaku hidden only a few meters away. As his enemy passed the massive Zaku stood up activated and lobed the flash grenade at his opponent it hitting the ground and sliding directly in front of the GuAIZ R. After the blinding explosion went off Kanto hit the boosters and streaked at his opponent exploding through the top of the dune.

Kanto disengaged the boosters hitting the ground spun and slid to a halt kicking up a huge cloud of sand by the time the sand had cleared the Zaku was standing behind the GuAIZ R the disengaged blade of his G7 beam ax resting inches away from the center of his enemies back. Kanto hoped that the blinding from the grenade, the speed of his actions and the fact that he made it appear as if he was destroyed was enough to catch his enemy off guard.

“Game, match, point.” Kanto said over the speaker hoping that this would be the end of a testing battle. Kanto hoped that this battle also was enough to prove to his superior officers that he was worthy of piloting the mobile suit he was given.

As the grenade exploded it momentarily blinded Ahrend who resisted the urge to cover his eyes with his hands.

"DAMN IT!"  With no time to react and draw his beam saber Ahrend kicked out his GuAIZ R's right leg and hit the thrusters, causing him to spin 360 degrees.  As he began the turn Ahrend held out his beam rifle, using it like a melee weapon to ward away anyone in the area.  With his screens still calibrating Ahrend could only feel the impact of his rifle hitting something else, an impact he had only felt two times before, his beam rifle had been cleaved in two.  Letting go of the rifle Ahrend fired his thrusters again to go airborne and then parallel to the ground.

As the screens cleared Ahrend cut his thrusters while at the same time bringing up both of his railguns into firing position.  With his target cursor going red as he seemed to be suspended in the air Ahrend let go a volley of 5 rounds from each of the railguns, sending off 10 total.  Now, as he dropped back down to the Earth Ahrend stored the railguns and drew out his beam saber, ready for a final attack if one was needed.

Kanto didn't expect his opponent to be this skilled and Kanto began to fill with joy at the thought that this very well could be his last battle. As his enemy began to fly into the air he hit the boosters and began to burst backwards. Seeing his enemy flip his railguns out Kanto began to raise his shield to block the oncoming barrage. The first few shots exploded infront of his unit filling the sky with sand the last few however tore into his shields ripping it along with his left arm to shreds. Kicking off the boosters the Zaku slid to a halt and stood up straight.

"very well then black dog." With his still operable right arm Kanto spun the ax across the palm stopping it so the bladed end pointed towards the GuAIZ R the two blades igniting. Kicking off the ground the Zaku moved towards the GuAIZ R again boosters firing off at full capacity. As he neared his opponent took one horizontal slash from right to left then twisted his hand and came diagonally upwards with the blade. Finally spins to his right with the blade out now standing on the GuAIZ's left a small explosion of sparks coming from the missing left arm joint.

Kanto took a small breath but was interrupted by a flurry of sirens announcing the near depletion of his battery. This was it win or lose he couldn't continue the battle any longer he was done. To signify that his battery was dead the blades on the G7 beam ax grew shorter and eventually turned off.

With his shield Ahrend blocked the first of the ZAKU's attacks, letting the beam ax glance off the face of the shield.  Then with his beam saber Ahrend blocked the follow up attack, batting the ax away as it narrowly missed the GuAIZ R's chest.  The final spin, however, was somewhat more difficult to block and having been already put into a difficult position the best that Ahrend could do was to lean back in with his shield.  As the ax curved in he braced himself and felt his mobile suit shudder as the ZAKU's ax cleaved off the top of his shield, but not before leaving a large black scar on the left side of the GuAIZ R's head... it had been a close call.

The force of both hits caused the GuAIZ R to tilt back and the only way to avoid falling was for Ahrend to stabilize himself with the suit's boosters, a move that drained precious energy from his battery.  The tell tale sign of this was the warning light, or idiot light as he liked to call them, that went off in Ahrend's cockpit.  'No reason to use the beam saber then.'  Switching the weapon off he stored it, but he was willing to make one last gamble when he saw that his opponent did the same.

Inside the cockpit Ahrend hit the release button for his shield, which was worthless now anyway, and he also hit another release that dropped his railcannons.  Putting the GuAIZ R into a fighting stance Ahrend showed that he was ready to go on until his suit stopped moving.

Kanto's hands danced across the controls as he rerouted power from some secondary systems and from his boosters he gave his Zaku an extra 10 minutes of combat time. As his cameras flicked back to life he saw that his opponent had dropped his shield and done something with his sword, unable to see it he wasn't sure. The biggest thing Kanto noticed was the fact that those troublesome railguns where gone.

Turning his Zaku to face the GuAIZ he jammed the bladed end of the ax into the sand. Even though he could still use it Kanto wasn't one to take an unfair advantage in a match of honor and he was glad that his opponent thought the same. Sliding his right foot back Kanto moved to Zaku into a fighting stance.  This is going to be difficult with one arm but if he wants to continue who am I to object.

Eager to try and finish this Kanto launched off towards his opponent swinging at his head trying to take out the main camera. Kanto followed through with the punch and, using his right hand to brace himself against the ground, brought his left leg over the top streaking down at his opponent. Finally Kanto kicked himself back and got back into his fighting stance.

OOC - I don't even know if you could flip around an 73 ton MS like that but anyway...

IC - With an expert's ease Ahrend blocked the punch aimed right at his main camera and simply sidestepped the follow through kick.  With something as large as a ZAKU trying to kick his GuAIZ R it was easy to read his opponent's movements and to properly react to them.

Ahrend, unlike his opponent, had no reservations about honor during a fight and with little after thought he fired a burst from his head mounted CIWS.  'I wonder if he forgot I still had these..."

OOC - LOL sorry your probably right been watching to much G Gundam recently thnx for being a good sport.

IC - Having made a atrocious misjudgment of character Kanto deserved the punishment he was dealt. As the CIWS rounds pelted his back they tore the boosters to shreds lucky Kanto had diverted power from them and there was no explosion. Stumbling from the bullets the Zaku started to fall reaching out he grabbed onto the beam ax stuck in the ground regaining his balance.

Kanto turned the massive Zaku around pulling the ax out and up across inadvertently spraying sand towards his opponent. Taking advantage of the mistake he leaps at the GuAIZ and swinging the blade performs a downward slash across the chest. Only having one arm made it harder to wield the massive ax so using that to his advantage Kanto used the momentum and launched himself at the GuAIZ driving his shoulder towards his opponent.

'Maybe I should have let him quit when he offered to.'  It was too late to accept the offer now and reflecting on his error would do him no good.  'Well, here he comes again.'

Leaning back Ahrend dodged the single attack from the beam ax and then, using the last of his fuel, Ahrend used both of the GuAIZ R's hands to stop the ZAKU in its tracks.

"That's enough," Ahrend said over the radio.  Drawing back the GuAIZ R's right hand Ahrend formed a fist and punched straight at the ZAKU's cockpit, it wouldn't kill the pilot but it would show that Ahrend meant business.

Pushed to his breaking point Kanto was breathing heavy sweat droplets forming on his forehead. As the Zaku strained from pushing against the GuAIZ he saw it rear back its right arm but when he threw the punch it passed into the blind spot formed from the damaged main camera.

Desperate to stop the punch Kanto yanked on the control stick to the left arm to try and block the punch, having forgotten that he lost it earlier so instead the whole Zaku moved. As the punch connected with the cockpit and tore most of the hatch off. The shock wave from the connection vibrated the whole cockpit and several of the controls let off a series of small explosions. As the small pieces of shrapnel fly in different directions some giving Kanto a few minor scratches on the face and arms.

When everything had finally settled down Kanto sat for a moment in the sun from outside pouring in through the hole in the cockpit. He slowly unbuckled his belt and pulled himself out of the seat letting out a small groan as he stood. Kanto hit the button to open what was left of the the hatch door but all it did was shake a few times and screamed in pain as the bent steel tried to force its way open. Giving up on it he slides his way out through the hole and climbed up the Zaku sitting on the top of the breastplate.

I guess thats match. Mind helpin me down? Kanto said simply.
