Orb Foundation Week: Arrival of PLANT

Rad

An announcement tone rang throughout the airport, causing almost everyone to stop what they were doing. Rad himself stopped waving at the crowd to look up expectantly at the speaker just beyond the crowd, already guessing at what the announcement was going to be.

“Flight 204A from PLANT is now on a landing course. All staff members, please be guided accordingly. Flight 204A from PLANT is now on a landing course…”

As the wind picked up a bit, making his flowing clothing wave gently like a flag, showing and accenting his curiously feminine physique, Rad Rider-Kamakura’s smile widened into a grin. He had to push some of his hair away from his face as he turned in the direction of where the shuttle would be landing, and continued watching as the shuttle came into view. It was then that his phone rang; he had been expecting this particular call.

“Hello? Yes, thank you. Your assistance is much appreciated,” he said to person on the other line. As he replaced the phone into his pocket, the shuttle’s landing gears struck ground, rolling across the runway as its brakes were applied.

Rad Rider-Kamakura knew that the reporters were now taking photographs and videos of the shuttle, and he needed to distract the networks just long enough for him to personally come up to the shuttle and meet with the VIP. In order to achieve this, Rad simply walked over to the nearest cameraman and reporter, startling them somewhat. Of course, the news team immediately shifted its focus to him, as did others.

In calculated precision, he spoke only a few choice words to the lucky reporter. “I have just been informed that the shuttle is being boarded by none other than Defense Secretary Delfina Schneider, and I’m afraid that’s all I know.”

As expected, the word spread like wildfire. Rad Rider-Kamakura didn’t really know much about the Defense Secretary of PLANT, but that wasn’t the point. The media’s information network was notorious for ruthless intelligence gathering, often rivaling that of any government. Soon enough, every network that had a reporter here at Kusanagi Aerospace Port would all be showcasing whatever they could find out about the young woman. Not only would that provide some cover from being seen on the air when he went up the now parking shuttle, but his associates at the Intelligence Division would also be able to collect whatever information the media had uncovered.

For now, however, as the shuttle parked right beside the red-carpeted mobile staircase, Rad motioned for Private Kitsune to follow him up the ramp. Once he reached the top, he waited until the door opened, and a flight attendant appeared. The young woman was startled to see a Representative of Orb standing right outside the passenger door, but she managed to compose herself and let him and the soldier with him inside.

Rad was led to the passenger cabin, where he spied uniformed ZAFT soldiers of various coat colors still in their seats and waiting to be given the signal to disembark. A quick scan of their faces told him that some were not as eager as others, but not because they did not want to be there. One man truly stood out, for not only was he wearing the only white coat in the group – the mark of a ZAFT Commander - but he was also wearing a mask to cover the upper half of his face. Ironically, he was also the one that tried the least to hide his expression, and Rad found himself quite amused by the contradiction.

The only woman among the passengers in this cabin, obviously the Secretary, had just finished addressing them, and he chose that moment to make his introductions. Stepping into the cabin with a warm and friendly smile on his face - disarming, to say the least - Rad said, “Apologies for intruding on your shuttle, Madame Secretary, but I am Representative Kamakura, and this soldier with me is Private Kitsune. On behalf of all the citizens of the Orb Union, we would like to personally welcome you and your companions to our tropical paradise. I thought it best to meet you inside first, as there are countless reporters outside just waiting for a photo opportunity.”

The landing had been executed perfectly by the pilots, hardly even a bump when the landing gears hit the ground Christoph almost didn’t realize that they had landed and already taxed to the designated parkingzone for the shuttle.

A female flight attendant made her way towards the shuttle hatch in her well kept flight dress, she pulled a leveler and pushed some buttons, the hatch opened with a soft movement and a depressuering sound from the pressure valves that hold the hatch closed.

Christoph noticed that the female flight attendant got quite surprised by something as the hatch had reached open position she had quickly adjusted her already flawless flight dress only to regain her focus once again to make sure she didn’t make ZAFT look like a group of personal groupies to the orb representive.

Trough the hatch a white dressed man with an eye-catching look entered with a soldier following closely behind him, Christoph scanned the men from top to toe, The famous Rad with an escort, guns on a ZAFT shuttle they should know better

Christoph knew that he might get flamed for doing what he was about to do by Katsuki but he though he would take the chance and do it anyways, after all he was there to protect Delfina .

“Apologies for intruding on your shuttle, Madame Secretary, but I am Representative Kamakura, and this soldier with me is Private Kitsune. On behalf of all the citizens of the Orb Union, we would like to personally welcome you and your companions to our tropical paradise. I thought it best to meet you inside first, as there are countless reporters outside just waiting for a photo opportunity.”

Christoph was seated between the hatch, Delfina and Katsuki, in the path where Rad and his escort had to make their way to Delfina and Katsuki.

Christoph stood up adjusted his uniform and stepped out in Rad´s and his escorts path trying to look as big as he could with a straight militaristic postue, he was quite an intimidating there he stood, well trained and quite big for his age, his brown hair hanging in stripes infront of his face with his pricing blue eyes gazing trough the stripes of hair.

“Sir, I am sorry to interrupt but I cannot let you pass trough with firearms, Sir. This is ZAFT property and we have V.I.P´s aboard, Sir”

Christoph had a respectful look on his face, after all there was no need to be rude when he stated the obvious.

He was awake before the plane landed like a dream. If anything, Landis had to admit that it was a rather smooth flight, even through the atmosphere. Just before the shuttle stopped, he took the opportunity to glance out the window.

Blue skies...fluffy white clouds...Doesn't seem all that different PLANT to me...except perhaps the fact that it's all natural. He mused. The opening hatch took his attention away, though, and through it came a man in white, impeccably dressed from head to toe. Had it not been for his facial features and hair, though, Landis was very sure even he could mistake him as a female.

“Apologies for intruding on your shuttle, Madame Secretary, but I am Representative Kamakura, and this soldier with me is Private Kitsune. On behalf of all the citizens of the Orb Union, we would like to personally welcome you and your companions to our tropical paradise. I thought it best to meet you inside first, as there are countless reporters outside just waiting for a photo opportunity.” The smile that came before radiated only friendliness-or so it seemed. Landis knew there was hardly any reason to suspect this man-Representative Kamakura-of having any dangerous thoughts, but it would not hurt just to be cautious.

He certainly is good looking, but 'pretty boy' might be more suitable instead of 'handsome'. Landis noted. Looks can be deceiving, however, as he had learned on several occasions during his training.

“Sir, I am sorry to interrupt but I cannot let you pass trough with firearms, Sir. This is ZAFT property and we have V.I.P´s aboard, Sir” One of the officers had beaten him to it, having stood up and shifted slightly in between the Representative and their two superiors. Had it been a less fomral situation, Landis would have thought the officer to be sizing him up instead, thanks to the differences in their builds. Nevertheless, he stood up with a guarded expression and walked a small distance, just enough for him to act if required.

Delfina looks at the man standing in front of her. She lets out a soft nod, and extends her hand out in a handshake. "There is no need to Apologize Representative Kamakura, I'm Delfina Schneider and its nice to meet both of you. I would like to thank you for inviting Plant to take part in such an important celebration." She turns out the window, causing the reporters to start snapping pictures. "I think your decision was the correct one to take, it would be hard to talk, with all the reporters below. Oh and before I forget, please call me Delfina."

The representative feigned a look of surprise as a red-coated young man, much taller than Rad was, imposed himself in the small aisle of the passenger shuttle.

“Sir, I am sorry to interrupt but I cannot let you pass through with firearms, sir. This is ZAFT property and we have V.I.P´s aboard, sir,” the young man said, in a polite but firm tone.

Rad regained his welcoming smile, and nodded respectfully to the young man whose sense of duty was much to be admired. Of course, that didn’t mean the ZAFT soldier was correct with his assessment, at least, not entirely. To throw off any other shreds of doubt as to Representative Kamakura’s ‘personality’, he chuckled and made a quiet sigh, intentionally looking straight at the soldier’s eyes and blinking his twice, as though he thought the young man was missing what was even more obvious.

“It is my turn to be sorry, stalwart soldier,” he began, with his tone being one of amusement rather than disagreement. “Were we in international airspace, International Laws would agree with you, but those same Laws clearly state that once your vehicle entered our nation’s jurisdiction, our laws superceded yours,” he said, expertly informing the soldier without making it sound like a classroom lecture. In order to reduce the young man’s potential embarrassment, he continued, “But such an oversight is easy to forgive. I myself learned that only after becoming Representative, after all.”

The radiance of his friendly ‘nature’ had been shining through all this time, and that was exactly how Rad wished it to be. He wanted to give them the same impression that he was known for in Orb – that he was a kind, approachable, and friendly man – and held nothing back in order to keep the now-popular façade. Paradoxically, familiarity was quite an effective tool when one needed to be discreet.

“Besides,” he said, “This soldier is carrying a firearm because he has been assigned as your delegation’s security detail for the duration of the festivities this week.” He looked around to search for sure signs of either skepticism or disbelief. He chuckled politely once again, regardless of the general reaction to his statement, and peeked beyond the redcoat to smile directly at the arguably beautiful Secretary. “I apologize if that inconveniences you, but it is protocol, you understand.”

"There is no need to Apologize Representative Kamakura, I'm Delfina Schneider and it’s nice to meet both of you. I would like to thank you for inviting Plant to take part in such an important celebration," she replied, peeking out the window and nearly feeding herself to the media frenzy outside. "I think your decision was the correct one to take, it would be hard to talk, with all the reporters below. Oh and before I forget, please call me Delfina."

Rad Rider-Kamakura weaved to the side of the ZAFT soldier, and delicately, received the Secretary’s hand into his own, giving it a soft and friendly squeeze. Without breaking eye contact, he gently shook the hand of the PLANT’s official representative for the event, and replied as charmingly as he always was, “The pleasure is all mine, Delfina. Please call me Rad,”

Making it look like it was unintentional, Rad didn’t let go of the Defense Secretary’s hand. He also kept smiling at her and looking at her eyes appreciatively as though she was the only other person in the cabin, making his ‘attraction’ to her evident to the more sensitive men in the cabin, and patently obvious to the female flight attendants that had been watching just outside all this time.

“I wish we could indeed have more time to talk,” Representative Kamakura said, in a tone that intentionally betrayed a little disappointed longing. “But the parade will be starting soon. Did you bring a float? We can have our staff transport it to the starting point in the city at once. And you? Were you planning on heading to your embassy for the moment, or are you amenable to heading to the parade now? Either way, your embassy sent word that they would send a chauffeured limousine to pick up your delegation, so it should be here at any minute.”

Ray found the aura of this man, Representative Kamakura quite disturbing. He gave off an almost tangable area of likability and purpose,This coupled with his pretty boy looks and the grace he carried himself with give every impression of nobility rather than a diplomat.  This really put Ray on edge.

Ray hated these times in between war, he was much more comfortable in a warzone yelling orders, taking lives, achieving victory and defeating the enemy. But such distinction was hard now when the enemy was unclear and times where apparently peaceful, now was the time of the diplomat not the soldier.  Which made it all the easier for Ray to dislike Rad, not on a personal level its just that  he just had this underlying ability to make Ray doubt his place in current society and made him feel like a relic from a primitive and violent time.

Ray dismissed this train of thought, soon he would be needed again no peace would last forever.  They were just brief pauses for each side to recoup loses, make assets and get ready to fight again after all it was basic human nature, coordinator or natural it just didn't matter.

Ray stood somewhat awkwardly, nearly tripping on his great  coat and causing his medals to jangle.  He hadn't been on earth for quite some time and still needed to adjusted to the gravity.  He quickly regained his posture and stood behind Christoph.  His 6' 3" frame stood over Christoph as he spoke in a voice that while not uncivil left no room for argument.

"Rejoin the others Christoph" He then shifted his gaze to meet eyes with Rad, cold, harsh eyes met warmth and compassion.  He took a step to wards Rad

"I am Commander Ray katsuki I will be in charge of Security for the defense secretary" He paused his voice taking a slightly sarcastic edge "I fully understand the necessity for armed personal, however I find the choice of a shotgun somewhat inappropriate, with it being an anti personal weapon with a short range it would almost mean that you expecting a close range threat.." He left the sentence hanging to insinuate that the choice of weapon was somewhat of a faux pas.

Ray paused slightly then did what had to be done he offered his hand and said "Its a pleasure to make your acquaintance, And I would like a full briefing on the security arrangements that have been made.  We will cooperate fully" keeping his tone flat and neutral.

Delfina lets out a piercing smile, and stares directly into his eyes. Her yellow eyes were sparkling like an exotic gem from some far off place. “Perhaps, we can talk over a meal or a drink. I would really like to know more about Orb, and you in general. You seem to be young for your position, just like myself. I find that rather appealing about people. You have dreams and goals for your nation and people.” She let out a small laugh, and pulls her hand slowly from Rad’s grip. She places one hand on her hip, and rubs her temple with the other.

“Sadly, our float is currently being delivered from Carpentaria. The Oceania union’s customs has kept our shuttle on a delay for longer then expected; it should arrive in a few hours. Until then, my men and I are kind of uneasy about the gravity and time difference. So I will accept your offer and head to our embassy.”

Delfina turns her back to Rad, and looks over her shoulder. “A girl has to look good to impress her neighbors.” She lets out a wink, and crosses to the open doorway. “Would you like to escort me out, it would prove to be a good photo op.” Delfina holds her hand out elegantly to Rad. She hand was slanting downward, much like a dancer in a waltz. She looks over at him awaiting his response.

Christoph was less then pleased with the representative´s answer but didn’t let it show as he was friendly explained to why the escort had a shotgun with him into the shuttle, but this didn’t mean that he agreed with having a gun wielding ORB soldier aboard the ZAFT shuttle if it had been up to Christoph he had commanded the soldier of the plane to wait outside until the ZAFT security detail was armed and ready for its duties.

This is ridiculous a ZAFT commander giving after for an ORB representative, I guess the wolf isn’t as dangerous as he wants us to belive, atleast he seemed to worry about the shotgun as much as I did, a strange choice of weapon.

Christoph pulled his legs together tightly and stretched his posture even more making him look like a poster boy for ZAFT and saluted Ray and Rad in a strong and perfectly executed salute, his brown silky hair waved from the forceful execution of the salute.

“Sir, yes, Sir”

Christoph softly nodded towards Rad, with his ice blue eyes sparkling with honour to be a part of the historical moment that was about to bring ZAFT and ORB closer together then the had been in a long while, his crimson uniform was embraced by the sunlight from outside the shuttle, in this tropical paradise the sun was a lot stronger then on the plants making his believe that his uniform glow in a soft red light.

I can’t wait to get outside and see ORB with my own eyes, you got to love earth’s vast landscapes and after all it is every coordinator and natural’s homeworld.

Christoph moved up beside Landis that he noticed had been moving up behind him backing him up if there would be any problems with the ORB soldier. Christoph turned his head against Landis his blue eyes met Landis eyes with a thankful grace as he nodded his head, making stripes of his brown hair fall down and cover his cheeks he swiftly moved them behind his ears with his right hand.

He had always been told by his brother Fredrich to show his gratefulness towards other people for their actions making sure that they knew he had noticed them. There was just one thing that Christoph respected more than those who show courage. People who showed courage and friendliness, were those who he respected the most. For those who merited his respect he always made sure that he would always be there for them, as a guardian, a friend or a brother-in-arms whatever may happen. He always protected those he loved, cared and respected equally, he had inherited this from his brother. Others might run, but a Von Crailsheim always stood by his brother-in-arms side leaving no one behind or protecting them until the very last breath.

As Rad escorted Delfina trough the shuttle Christoph could se them holding hands, he raised and eyebrow as this was an rare sight, ZAFT and ORB holding hands, although Delfina seemd more then pleased to be holding the pretty boys hand. He had to admit they were a pretty couple, although the chances that they would end up as a couple was less then slim.

And so the master and commander stood up, revealing his even taller stature to the shorter representative. He had noticed the man nearly stumble on his own clothing in his periphery, but made no overt gesture to make it noticed. Rad simply concluded that they were all probably not used to the natural gravity of Earth. He could understand - Rad lived on Persepolis for the better part of two years himself.

“I am Commander Ray Katsuki”, the masked man said. “I will be in charge of Security for the Defense Secretary. I fully understand the necessity for armed personal, however I find the choice of a shotgun somewhat inappropriate, with it being an anti- personnel weapon with a short range it would almost mean that you expecting a close range threat,” he assessed.

Rad looked up at the man’s eyes through the holes in the mask, eyes that showed disdain, partly directly at his person for reasons Rad could only speculate upon. Still, there was something behind the older soldier’s gaze that mystified the representative. He could feel emptiness behind the white-coat’s look, a void that perhaps even the man himself was unaware of. Rad kept on smiling in amusement. He had not expected to meet such interesting characters in such a small compartment, in such a short period of time.

The man extended his hand for a shake, and Representative Kamakura obliged. He heard the man speak again, saying, “It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance, and I would like a full briefing on the security arrangements that have been made.  We will cooperate fully.” The man’s tone was as nearly as devoid of feeling as his gaze.

“Well met, Commander Katsuki,” he replied after the handshake. “Unfortunately, I am not the one who decides what weapon they bring, so you will have to ask the Private the reason yourself. Although,” he paused and looked up, as though an idea had struck him, though it had been part of his plan all along. The soldier might even end up gathering more information than Rad initially expected. “I do not see any reason why Private Kitsune should not be placed under your supervision, seeing as his duties are the same as you and your men. Take care of the young man, Commander.”

Delfina interjected, making him stare at her gem-like eyes once again, telling him about the status of their float and her acceptance of the offer of escorting her and her delegation to the PLANT embassy. Of all of what she said, it was the comment about her interest in his background that stood out, especially about his dreams for Orb and it’s people.

“I’m flattered, Delfina. I would also like to know more about you and the PLANTs,” he replied, but smoothly ‘admitted’, “Hopefully in that order.” He kept his admiring look at her as she turned around and looked over her shoulder, making Rad all the more amused to note that the woman was probably as much of an expert at the flirting game as he was. Even if he felt no real attraction for the woman, he was certain he was still going to enjoy her company. That, at least, made all of this work worthwhile.

“A girl has to look good to impress her neighbors,” she said, winking at him, and offered her hand as a lady would to her dance partner. “Would you like to escort me out? It would prove to be a good photo op.”

Rad glided to Delfina’s side, keeping his eyes locked on hers as though he was growing more love-struck with her by the minute. He gently took her hand in his, standing as though he was her gentleman in a fancy ball. He leaned towards her and whispered softly into her ear, not loud enough for anyone but her to hear. “You have more than impressed me, Delfina Schneider.”

His slowly returned to his posture, with poise that rivaled that of the woman he was escorting. “I would not have it any other way.”

With that, he led her out of the shuttle and down the staircase, showcasing the Defense Secretary and himself to the media outside. Thankfully, they did not have to endure the near-ridiculous intensity of the flashes from cameras for long, as the limousine from the PLANT embassy was already awaiting them at the end of the red carpet. Being the gentleman that he was acting out to be, Representative Rad Rider-Kamakura promptly opened the door for the beautiful, purple-haired coordinator, leading her inside without letting go of the touch of her hand for even a second.

Tomorrow's tabloids were certainly going to have interesting headlines.

Aside from looking like a million dollars to plenty of people (and women especially), Landis had to grudgingly admit that he was smooth and charming. It was probably this fact that really caused resentment to surface in the Commander's voice, no matter how hard he might have tried to hide it.

He was of a mixed opinion about ORB Representative Kamakura. It wasn't just regarding his looks or the charisma he seemed to exude so perfectly. There was wisdom behind his outward qualities, and whether that bodes ill or not, Landis had no way of making sure.

But damned, he sure knows how to turn many a man into green peppers... He smiled. There was no particular anger towards the Representative, whether or not he had overstepped his boundaries or not by leading Defense Secretary Delfina Schneider personally down the craft as though they had a kindled flame between them caused by any possible sparks as well as the possibly audacious suggestion that an ORB soldier be let in under the wing of Commander Katsuki.

There was only caution...A mild feeling of it that when triggered, would ring off the alarms in his head as well as body. Nevertheless, Landis felt little need to show any of that. He simply let his shoulders relaxed and saluted the Representative in the usual manner as he stepped down the shuttle.

Speaking of which, I can see why there were quite a few rumors about Delfina Schneider... He gave a quick glance at her profile and decided he liked what he saw: Shapely legs, a figure with curves in the right places and tanned skin as well as a head of silky purple hair one would consider irrevocably messy. An attractive woman by any standard...But then again, just as it was with people indirectly involved with him, Landis was not entirely interested.

As Landis' hand left his temple, the cutting of his hand militarily crisp, he was surprised to see the pilot officer who had stood up bravely earlier on stepping backwards on Katsuki's command and turning to look at him. The final nod from the officer was unquestionable, and Landis simply chose to tilt his head in similar fashion as a response, neither resentment nor cheeriness apparent on his facial features. He was probably one of the most serious young soldiers he have seen so far, and to show even the tiniest lack of respect for propriety would be insulting not only to their ORB hosts, but to ZAFT as well. As the Representative and Secretary both disappeared out of sight from the doorway, Landis tugged on his unbuttoned collar-A habit he had never been able to get rid of completely ever since the day he wore the red uniform.

Now all that's left is to wait for the masked geezer to give us some orders... Looking at the ORB soldier, Landis almost smiled in amusement.I'm going to comfort him, though, if the Private here receives the short end of the stick from Katsuki...

Deflina sits casually in the limousine, and waits for her entourage to catch up. She felt  her heart beating faster, seeing a large crowd of reporters and being escorted down by a young noble sent Delfina's heart fluttering away. She tries to keep a smile on her face to prevent herself from blushing. Although, she was a girl, she had to act like a responsible adult. Delfina buckles the seat belt around her waist and rests her back on the comfy interior seating. "Will my entourage be traveling with us? Or is another vehicle picking them up?"

Rad Rider-Kamakura could feel Delfina's heart beating faster. Though he could plainly see how hard she tried to hide it, his trained senses immediately picked up on her inner burst of emotion. Of course, he confessed nothing and simply continued smiling. He planned of letting her feel that way for a long time; Rad was going to make certain that she would never forget him and her time in Orb. Perhaps his 'emotional investments' would not be returned soon, but eventually, it always did. Patience was a virtue for someone who always planned ahead.

He slipped into the car, sitting right next to her, and made a soft but intentional grumbling sound when she let go of his hand to buckle herself in. Rad seated himself comfortably, and did the same, as she asked her question.

Looking outside, then inside, he replied, "I'm not certain your ambassador was aware of how big your entourage would be. We should ask the chauffeur." He looked around and found the button for the intercom, and pressed it. "My good man, will there be space for the soldiers?"

The reply was almost immediate. "They'll fit, sir, but it's going to be tight."

Delfina lets out a sigh, and looks at the interior. "I guess we could take a few of them. I personally would like only for Commander Katsuki to join us, the others can be picked up by the Embassy staff." She looks outside for Katsuki, wondering where he was. Delfina wanted to see the parade, and also get a chance to meet with the "princess" of Orb. She wanted to get as much of Earth in, before she would have to return to space. Delfina longed for a vacation, and this would have to suffice.

A lot of things were running through her, the wit and charm of Rad started to make her feel odd. She lets out a smile and unbuttons her collar. Delfina showed a litte cleavage, and fans herself with her hand. "It most certainly is hot..." She pulls off her outer jacket and foldsit over her lap. It was a little temperate, but it was an island nation. Delfina was used to the average temperature of Plant, where it was never too cold or hot this time of the year.

Up until now Kitsune had managed to remain quiet without drawing any real attention to himself however with the transportation situation becoming slightly haphazard he slid out of the mob of people and slowly made his way towards the ZAFT Commander.  Quickly he went back through the mental notes he had made earlier during the day, "What was the man's name... Ah yes, it's Katsuki isn't it."

Drawing himself to the position of attention he saluted the Commander,

"Excuse me Commander Katsuki?  Leading Private Takashi Kitsune, I've been assigned to work with you and the ZAFT delegation during the parade's security detail."  Holding his salute Kitsune hoped that he hadn't been too upfront.
