Valiant 96
How many of you here actually have dreams of writing your own novels, or even hope to become a published writer?
Temari-Desert-Storm 0
That's a very good question. Really, it depends on how well you can write, and if you can actually come up with an original idea that someone else hasn't already come up with. If I was to think about it, I guess I could become a published writer, like people say I shoud, but then again, it all comes down to the fact that I might not get any of my work sold, and that would turn being an author into just being plain ignored. So, I guess it might be something to consider, but then again, it might not. I just see it as an activity to pass the time. Who knows? I might be a published author if I wanted to. Valiant 96
What's the purpose of you wanting to do so? For the money? Or writing for the passion of it?
carpenoctum 0
I write short stories and stuff all the time, mostly i just do it cus weird stuff pops in my head and i want to put it down. Ive had a couple published by my University i don't know if that really counts, but i did get 50 bucks for one of em. As for writing a whole novel, i dont know. I can do shorter and medium length things but I usually kill my idea before it gets that long.
Kaizer 0
I used to do a lot of creative writing in my youth, and helped my elementary school publish a small collection of student submitted poetry. Recently however, my classes focus on mathematics and application, so the need to write is far less than it used to be (RPing aside, which I don't count, since its more like talking or acting in a sense). By complete and total coincidence however, my computer science project for the semester is supposed to be an independent programming project, where we make a game of our choice using Java (given the prof's approval, so we don't end up having people somehow make a porn game or a simple calculator <_<). I plan on creating a short visual novel, or at least, it will be a visual novel if I can figure out how to import images and sound into Java; otherwise it won't have much of a 'visual' part, now will it I've tried writing longer stories before, but I could rarely do longer stories. At best, they would end up looking slightly like 'Life of Pi' with some of the chapters being a sentence long (note: Life of Pi is an awesome book, I demand you read it! x3 ). One of my friends is trying to get me to help him write a web-comic if he can get the time to start drawing more images, though if that gets off the ground, I'll also be the one stuck doing the coding for the site *My friend isn't very internet savvy* V_V
liubei013 0
Interesting question. I wrote the occasional story here and there, mainly either for assignments or if I just felt like it. I didn't write much until I started posting a fanfic for a Ragnarok Online fansite forum. Eventually it ended up over 160 pages (on MS Word) by the end of the story. It started out rather spontaneously and most of my entries were never planned ahead of time. (outline? what outline? ) I just jotted down ideas in my handy little notebook whereever I went. Someone suggested that I should publish the fic, which of course isn't really too feasible but I have considered writing something that could be published. But it's more on a whim than anything else and with my limited time nowadays, I don't have time (and sometimes don't have the drive) to write new stories. Of course, except for the occasional one-shot that you see here.
Darkness 0
If I could keep a story idea going for longer then 10 pages, without rambling and boring my readers, I'd already be working on a novel to be published. As it is, I am working on my length issues. I hope to have something published before my life is over, even if it is just a short story... But I'd rather write a novel, if I can. F.A.I.T.H 0
Since when has this topic been on? I can't believe I missed this... Anyway, I've not really been doing much despite having the want to write something original. So far I've written three unfinished fanfictions, and will probably remain unfinished if work keeps coming my way. Still, Currently I'm contemplating on putting up an idea for a original fantasy story, despite the deteoriation of my confidence by people and events along the way. For aspiring authors, I think it's essential to take note that writing a novel isn't as simple as using purely your inspiration. Grand scale planning is needed if you want to keep the readers hooked, as well as proof-reading not just for the normal errors one might make, but for any plot holes you might have left along the way. Things have to make sense, and 'predictability' should not be a frequent appearance in your story. As of now, I'm thinking that short stories, and perhaps even writing fanfiction can be a good start. Valiant 96
If there were to be an online novel publishing service, would that interest you? I know there's the fan fic hosting but that's just for fan fic. How about original stories or serious adaptations or additions to existing series etc? Temari-Desert-Storm 0
Heck yes. That would be a great thing. I would definatly go for it. If you're proud of your work, why not publish it? It's the one thing amature authors would die for. Some acknowledgement by the general public.
Valiant 96
It's not a very popular way to do things, as far as I know. Seems that many authors are worried about copyrights and stealing of their ideas.
Drannk13 0
My friend is writing a so-called novel. Unfortunately he would infringe about 10-25 copyright laws(Square-enix, the people who created animes like Naruto, Bleach, Samurai X etc and also some other game). Its quite interesting though despite the copyright stuff. Apart from that, I got lousy marks for English. Hate the summary writing and "questions like which character you like best and give three reasons.". So I don't think I will be writing much stories( I have an almost infinite amount of imagination as long as theres something to base it on.). Its just that I have mistakes like missing out an "s", or spacing where I shouldn't( I think it was my teacher's mistake, there wasn't such a big spacing in the word) or in particular, my spelling and grammar(in my rush I left out an 'r' in further and I wrote sentences wrongly ) But with out pressure, I think I can do much better. By the way, why don't we write our very own Advent Destiny Original Novel with all our ideas pooled up and discussed and later typed? P.S: I think I'm writing too much off-topic(does off-topic have a '-'?) stuff.

t569ssgoku 0
Writing a novel as I am bored at work, having alot of trouble with these amazingly scripted Advent Children quality fights in my head and getting them onto paper.

You coul always write using a creative commons copy write that lets other use your material and ideas as long as they don't profit from it. And i believe there's a stipulation in there for citing the originator of the idea your using.
