Battle: This Rivalry Will Never End

Ryou Misaki

These mobile suits were more different than any other he had ever piloted. These Gundam's were much more different and powerful, the power core could give him more ammo without restraint than the Zaku's and Strike that he previously piloted before, though that match ended in a draw again with neither person satisfied as Ryou seemed to have won due to a technicality that the referee showed in the footage. Clare wasn't happy at all, and he had known that she was going to challenge him again but would never initiate it no matter how many glares she gave him.

Ryou had wondered why the straps that were supposed to hold him in his suit was pink though, having felt rather more annoyed by the color scheme but that was nothing in comparison to the happiness as he had been approved to pilot the Destiny Gundam. He had known it well considering it belonged to the pilot that had defeated the Destroy suit in Berlin and once more in Heaven's Base. What a lucky kid he was! He felt like he had gotten his birthday, christmas, promotion present all at once and nothing was going to depress him now. Well except for getting this machine destroyed by Clare that is.

" Oi, Ryou...don't destroy this suit alright? Your father will get shouted at if he hears that one of the high graded mobile suits got wiped out. " The same girl had talked to him this time, having forced Ryou to a pout as she didn't share the same happiness that he got to use this suit instead of some lousy earth model or Zaku. " Jeeze, you make it sound like I break everything.. " He said to the girl as she smiled. " You set the forest on fire and cost us a court cost due to you two having destroyed a rainforest...The earth's running out of them and trying to at least regrow them since the Junius 7 incident. " She had said. The colony had crashed into earth and wiped out much of the wildlife and forests on the planet it seems. " Whatever..this is a debris belt...nothing worth protecting here. " He mentioned as it was just wreckage from machines and rocks.

" Ryou Misaki, Destiny, Standby for Launch "

That voice had echoed through the area as his suit was picked up by the shoulders and then carried to the launch pad. " She's using the Legend suit also...you two are a lot alike. " She had giggled at the thought of them being so similar but Ryou was more worried about the DRAGOON system then anything at this point to even respond. " Yah..alike.. " He said as his mind was elsewhere as he pressed the button to start up the program and suit.

" Startup of all system has been confirmed. Commencing Launch Sequence. "

His eyes watched the radar and bars light up, this was much more different than a Zaku and Strike than he first thought. Oh well, at least he would get a much more better and faster fight with this suit instead of the Launcher Strike.

" Hatch Released. Engagement of the Firing system has been Confirmed. Catapult Online. Firing propulsion, normal. "

He saw the outside now and the reflection of the sun's rays flashing off the buildings and wreckage, the stars seemed the least of his attention as he sighed and took in a breath to calm his mind from the nervous thought of the open and endless space.

" Course Cleared. Destiny, Launch when Ready. "

He saw the  'Throttle, Brakes, Catapult ' suddenly flash ' CLEAR ' and then the Abort symbol change to Launch as he gripped at the controls and opened his mouth. " Ryou Misaki, Destiny, Going Out! " He shouted as the gears that were latched onto the Destiny's legs pulled him forward and into the space as the suit's Phase Shift activated and it's 'Wings of Light' opened as he shot forward. " Systems all Green..weapons..check...power output..maximum.. " He whispered as he watched a check on all his weapons and power that he could use, this suit needed to be at it's best to move with DRAGOON's after him.

" Clare...You'll see my 'Power' ! " He whispered..

Alright, so Maybe Clare wasn’t being very gracious about her ‘technical’ defeat last time. No, it did not matter to her that she was the better shot and that she could pin him on the ground in a wrestling match, that... Oh, the list went on and on! The only problem was that he could beat her at other things, and in the end they tied.  Tied at everything. It felt so good to be brilliant, but the knowledge that someone else was just as brilliant burned. Or was it? Let’s be honest here, Clare would never forgive him if Ryou wasn’t just as good as her.

“Hey, Charlie, are you two at it again,” a young technician waved when Clare approached the Legend Gundam launch pad. ‘Charlie’ was her other nickname, considering that half the time she thought and acted like a guy... Well, let’s face it, she was every bit like Yezak Joule, except that she had a sense of humour. Of course, no one had the guts to say this to her face, and so Clare never really understood why some guys persisted to call her ‘Charlie.’ “Won’t you guys ever give up? Like right now, why use such expansive weaponry? I mean, I know he has a father with a position, and you are just money bags, but really, you two are too much... By the way, can you really pilot this thing?”

“Quite easily, thank you,” Clare replied with a smirk. She recalled flying planes with similar multiple weapon systems and found them to be rather simple in use. Perhaps she did not realize that the only reason she piloted them so easily was because for the past few years she lived for nothing but her studies and her work. Clare did not see that, but to everyone else it was evident that this girl was a workaholic. Of course, only one person knew that work to her was a way of preserving her sanity, but he was far away now, and Clare did not know when she would see him next. It’s funny... She never thought she’d miss that man...

“Well, win this one, Charlie,” the young man laughed, “and don’t you dare to trash your mobile suite, you hear? Do you even know how long we have to work on repairs?”

“That is what you’re here for, no, darling?”

“You pilots are all alike!” Here the young man paused and looked at her with an impish smile. “So, what do you say that after the match the best pilot and the best mechanic go grab a bite or something?”

“Sorry, hon,” Clare chuckled softly, “I’m suffering from terminal marriage to my work, but if I ever get a divorce, you’re first on my list.” She winked at him and released the ropes, spiralling up to the pilot centre of her mobile suit. For a moment she wondered why she turned down the invitation. After all, he was kind of cute, pleasant, funny, and certainly did not lack in intelligence department... Yes, it may be true that she usually refused all the offers to take her out that came from the male half (unless it was Ryou, but he was so much like a girl that he really did not count), but lately her refusals became even more frequent. Clare shrugged - in the end she was married to her work, to her studies and to her one and only driving ambition of which she spoke to no one.

“Are you ready?”

“Yes, all systems on,” Clare replied laconically. As always, her face set and her body grew strangely limp against the pilot seat. Her small hands wrapped around the controls and long fingers began tapping the keys. Clare usually flew manually, and so she had to re-set the controls every time she piloted. Most did not bother with it, since it was rather difficult to control the machine and operate the weapons at the same time, but it ensured better manoeuvrability for those who could do it. Clare was not a very experienced pilot, and yet she managed to fly on manual and control multiple weapons with a great ease. Passionless and calm, her complete lack of emotion on the battlefield ensured superb piloting.  It was just like this girl to turn her greatest defect into an asset... But that is how she became one of ZAFT’s red, no? Ryou was just as good. Was it a given that all best pilot had to have severe issues? Probably. “Charlotte Clarick, ZGMF-X666S Legend Gundam launching!”

Seconds later a grey mobile suite glided off the launching pad. Clare scanned the area looking for Ryou. Yes, this rivalry should have ended month ago... Only if it was to end, what were they supposed to do then? What excuse could they possibly have for spending so much time together?

“Come out come out wherever you are,” Clare chuckled under her breath... No, this definitely would not end any time soon...

Ryou was already within the Debris belt scanning around the area, a lot of junk was floating through the area and the rocks around had even a few buildings on them which made him assume it was probably remnants of Juinus 7 and then heard the alarm signaling that the Legend was out and about it seems.

Ryou knew that his large sword and cannon were useless at this point, with the DRAGOONs around her it would be costly to have a large sword that would take too much effort to swing and a large cannon that needed to target and could be aimed easily enough by those little mosquito's of hers. He'd needed to depend on his beam rifle it seems and his Palma Fiocina to manage to get her suit or the little lasers. Other then that it was a plain dodge and avoid battle until he could get close.

He had enough time to take out the keyboard and started to type out the system OS to change to his own style as the eyes turned off and the mobile suit turned limp in the middle of battle while he typed at a fast pace. " Take energy from the cannon and move it to the wings...speed is better than energy and a large cannon will manage...increase joint reaction and manual control...heat index needs to be more sensitive...scanners more sensitive.. " He whispered knowing that he needed to know where the Dragoons were if he were to avoid them, having then placed the keyboard away the suit's eyes lit up and the wings opened once more as he turned and landed on a rock and waited for her. They always had a similar pattern to their battles that he didn't find it bad at all by now that they were using suits that might be rather costly.

" She can't handle the Dragoon system...most people can't.. " He whispered knowing that he was gonna get a very bad surprise now.

Clare noticed Ryou’s Destiny Gundam on top of one of the larger rocks in the debris belt. She had no doubt that he was waiting for her to make the first move, and this time she was more than willing to. However, several preparations had to be made first. The Dragoon system presented one of the difficulties that had to be dealt with. Since she flew on manual, she had to control them in the same way she operated her mobile suit. A touch screen popped up showing the eight Dragoons she had at her disposal. Clare adjusted the scale and range to the optimum and placed her right hand on the screen. She had two Dragoons for every finger, plus her thumb to direct the fire. Next Clare changed the settings of the mobile suit control so that she could pilot with one hand. This did not leave much room for other weapons. Since the power levels were infinite, it was best to disregard the weaker weapons and use one good one. MA-BAR78F high-energy beam rifle was the natural choice.  She’d use the Dragoons to keep him at bay and then fire the main weapon.

After all the preparations were finished, Clare started her mobile suit and moved swiftly to where Ryou was located. The debris belt would make it difficult for her to use the Dragoon system, but then it was a stick of two ends - he would not have an easy time noticing the tiny weapons either.

When Clare was within a good enough range, she dissociated the Dragons, moving four of them behind Ryou and four of them in between the two mobile suites. Meantime she aimed the beam rifle at Destiny Gundam and waited for the young man to make his move.

The scanners that he changed with the system OS had picked it up already, having caught that she sent out all her DRAGOONs and was starting to aim at him with the alarm going off of being targeted. The Destiny's eyes lit up once more as it's wings expanded and the suit raised itself from the rock and above as after images were being left from it's speed.

Ryou had felt a bit of strain from moving at this speed. These bursts of speed and after images were leaving more strain on his body than expected but it would make targeting for her even harder and dodging those little lasers even more easier. He knew that she wouldn't shoot the lasers unless she was planning on leading him into a particular area or knew that she could make him stop. For now his attempts were just to get close to the lasers and then use the palm to destroy it. " Nearly...there.. " He whispered heading towards her but his target was one of the DRAGOON's.

“Oh no you don’t,” Clare hissed and tapped on the screen in order to fire the Front Dragoons that Ryou was heading for. Since they were aimed at him, he would have to back off to avoid the beams. Not really sure which way he would go, Clare spread out the back four Dragoons to make them cover a larger area. The beam rifle was aimed at him for a while now, But Clare decided not to use it until she absolutely had to. Unfortunately the Dragoons were a great pain in the butt. Yes, they were effective, but she would have to protect them too. Meantime, Legend was not really suited for a close-range combat. It could manage, but that certainly was not something it was designed for... Ugh! A kingdom for Strike Freedom! Yeah, Clare loved overpowered battle suits. At the same time, she was good with almost any battle suit. So, she’d just have to manage with this one. Damn Ryou! Everyone else would have been dodging instead of trying to hit! She should have known though... Oh well, Clare still had plenty of firepower to keep him at bay.

He bit his lower lip and moved back to avoid the beams that were shot, his cannon sliding over and then he had aimed it. " I'll just break that concentration of yours then.. " He whispered and shot at the nearby satellites and large rocks to send out garbage towards her suit. It would cause a bit of a shake inside her cockpit if it were to hit but for now he had moved back a bit and knew that she had 4 more aimed at him.  What he'd give for a bit of support, Legend was easy to hit if a person were to get close but the issue was the DRAGOONS were all focused on him and he can't get close. " Eventually those things will return to her... " He whispered as he pondered on what to do at the time, he could dodge as much as he could but eventually she'd learn and match the movements with his suit.

“Not today, sweetheart,” Clare chuckled as she saw the broken boulders flying towards her. She could allow them to hit, since the damage would not be noteworthy, but that would destabilize her. No, she had to shoot them down. Realistically, she did not have too many options. Clare could only hit the debris with her dragoons, but that would involve taking the aim off Ryou... The fragments were between the two of them, so she would only have to shift the front Dragoons one bit.

Quickly she moved her hands along the screen to simultaneously shift the focus of the front four Dragoons and to fire both sets of them. A smile passed across her lips. Ryou would have to move forward now, but although the focus of the front Dragoons was shifted, the debris pieces were now moving towards him. Not once had she used her beam rifle, and if she could help it, Clare would not use it at all. It was just there and aimed at him as an intimidation weapon that could possibly be discharged if push came to shove.

All her Dragoon's had shot out their fill, she had no power left in any of them considering she used all eight now. With the rocks heading towards him and a beam rifle waiting in her hands he had no worries about it, this armor would take a few scratches. He weighed his chances and knew that the Dragoons were the biggest issue and now that they had no power he would have to take this small opening he had.

" Alright then....time to get up close and personal.. " He whispered and dashed forwards taking out his giant sword and hacking through any giant rocks that could annoy him. Her Dragoons were still left out and would take a while to get recharged by the time they get back to the main suit, by then he'd be already within cutting her or she was dodging by then, either way he was getting through the rocks and towards her. " You're Mine! " He had shouted out as the suits wings grew and he dashed forward with his sword in hand.

Clare hissed something incomprehensible underneath her breath and retracted her Dragoons. They would have to recharge for a while. Meantime she had other problems to deal with - pressing problems. Legend was not suited for close-range combat, but Destiny was more than qualified. No matter, she would not let him close the distance. Thanks to the nuclear engine, Clare’s mobile suite had an infinite supply of energy, so she could dodge him forever.

This is exactly what Clare intended to do. Legend shot the beam rifle at the approaching Destiny and made a swift motion upwards. She had no hopes of hiding, but she could put some distance between them, and the debris belt would make it incredibly hard for Ryou to keep up. However, motion through the debris was hard for Clare too. Luckily the beam rifle was there, infinite, handy, and did not require much effort to use. Perhaps she was too hasty to reprogram to a manual piloting. Well, she’ just have to switch back as she went...

Ryou smirked as he watched the Dragoons retreat for now, he lost his chance at getting them now but could tell from the fact she was using her beam rifle that she wanted space. The Destiny moved downwards to dodge the beam shot and then kept flying forwards. " Need to get up close and personal. " He whispered as he dashed side to side making the targeting for her harder while he was getting dashes of extra speed closer to her.

He had taken out his own beam rifle and shot out a few blasts to make things harder, he had no shield with him but the one made of energy would provide enough. Not to mention he needed to hand free to grip at her body or Dragoons, for now he was just making sure to expect to use the shield in case. " Come on Clare..your outmatched in speed...without those Dragoons your just running away! " He had shouted as the Destiny kept on moving.

“Catch me then,” Clare replied with a laugh on her speaker. The Dragoons were recharged half way, but she still had a lot of reprogramming to do. Needless to say that Clare did not like this one bit. She preferred to pilot on the manual, but the Dragoons required the precision that she could never provide without a great deal of computer work. On top of that she had Ryou’s shooting to deal with.

“Think you can learn how to shoot before you start piloting.” she teased as Legend dodged ever beam and made a sharp motion upwards. Clare had this crazy way of dodging shots, where she would move the machine to one side for a couple of times, and then intersected the beam moving to the other side… Yeah, in other words she flew like a very stoned pigeon… But on the bright side it seemed to work for her. Now, if only she could keep the manual piloting and computer-adjust the Dragoons… That was going to take some work.

Clare shot a few random rounds in order to slow Destiny’s approach and continued to dart through the debris belt. There was no particular destination she was heading for. All she could hope for was to buy some time or to find a large enough chunks to play hide and seek with him.

Ryou growled in frustration at this damn game of cat and mouse, especially if the mouse had a miniature army it could send out and swarm him. " Like I need to hit you... " He whispered as he stopped and the large gun at his left side flipped over and pointed towards her direction. " I'll just need to make you stop. " He whispered as he shot out a high graded blast towards one of the rocks floating around, having blast through 2 of them before hitting a remnants of a small satellite that he spotted from having waited and flown around the area.

Once the asteroids broke apart and sent chunks flying in several areas the Satellite had also sent out long pieces of high fibred wires used to keep it together. He recalled the strategy used by the Dominion battleship on Orb's Kusanagi during the first war but didn't think he would have been as lucky as to use it. " Now then... " He whispered as the more pieces of rocks would make trouble for her Dragoons's traveling and he would just have to get close. " Time to get up close and personal Clare! " He shouted as his wings spread out once more and he flew towards her avoiding the large rocks as he came by.
