(Collab with Roromi)
With plenty of strength still left in her, Geneva continued her destruction upon the poor mass production units, only to see a barrage of smoke erupt from some close to her.
“What?” She called out after hearing Roane, but it was too late. The Ginn who only revealed its red eye fired directly at the Blue Frame, utterly decimating the two submachine guns she carried. Tossing them aside to save her hands, Geneva only had two backup beam sabers on standby.
“I’m not gonna be beaten by some stupid GINN.” It was almost a complete change in personality for the Ensign, but it was now necessary in order to survive. “I-I won’t let out win!” Pulling out both sabers, she slashed in X shape into the smoke.
Smoke billowed from the wounds Jonathan inflicted upon the Blur Frame. He allowed a crooked grin to grow on his mouth at the notion that maybe these enemy units didn’t have phase shift after all? Any smile fell from his face as the smoke veil in front of him instantly eroded away with twin fuchsia streaks slicing away the smoke. His worries were compounded when the vivid pink lighting sliced away at his outstretched rifle.
Instinctively he let go of the exploding weapon and hopped back. “Beam weapons!” He cursed as he realized just what he was up against. He narrowed his eyes as he brought his sword up in front of him. “Is that the best you can do?” He taunted though he had little substance behind the taunt beyond his own wavering confidence.
His eyes darted around the battlefield seeing if he could find an answer to this particular threat. He thought he spied a solution in one of the wrecks nearby. His GINN cautiously approached the wreck of an M1 and he carefully kneeled besides it, hoping the smoke from the mess would provide him some cover. “Show me what an Orb soldier can do!” He called out.
Geneva normally didn’t have much of an issue with smoke and whatnot getting in the way of her battles, but there seemed to be an abnormal case of it during the battle in their homeland. “Ah! Come on already!” She fired her vulcans all around her, hoping to remove some of the darkness surrounding her that not even the beam sabers could remove. Unfortunately, this meant she had completely missed the GINN hiding itself behind some more wreckage.
Jonathan Grimaced as the Astray let off a volley of Vulcan bullets. “They didn’t actually loose me did they?” He mused as he reached down blindly with his free hand. The particular wreckage soon yielded what he was looking for and he grabbed the weapon he as hoping for. “Over here!” He cried out as he sprang into action.
His GINN leapt out at the Astray, sword in one hand, beam saber in the other. He lashed out with his left hand and the borrowed beam saber. He hoped that the surprise would give him the advantage he needed. He also knew he had to act quickly before the power dried up in the alien weapon.
This time, the Orb pilot knew to be prepared for anything, easily blocking the swing from the GINN’s stolen weapon. “What is this guy? An ace?” She stated as the two sabers connected. Using the power of the Blue Frame’s heightened range in motion, the right hand spun upside down, attempting to jam the remaining beam into the head of the monoeye.
Jonathan’s eyes grew wide as the second beam saber came in close for the monitor. A lesser pilot would have lost their nerve right there and then, but not Jonathan. He knew this wasn’t an ordinary opponent off the bat so he was expecting an up hill battle. The cost of one GINN would be a pittance for the head of an elusive Astray.
“I bet this will hurt!” He cried out as he lunged forward with his physical sword, swiping it hard for the torso of the Astray just as his monitor washed out from the beam saber piercing into the GINN’s head. He held his breath waiting for his backup cameras to flicker on, that or for the beam saber to slice through his mobile suit completely. With any luck his swipe would take the blue suit out of commission.
It did.
The attack was a success as she watched the pink blade dig deep into the GINN’s head, but this didn’t stop its pilot in the slightest. Geneva stared at the physical sword, almost as if it was in slow motion coming toward her cockpit.
”Wait. How did you-“
The slice was clean, not even scratching the paint as it swept through the torso of the Blue Frame. The backpack proceeded to ignite quickly, then burst into smoke. The bottom half dropped to the ground, cracking the concrete below while the beam sabers turned off.
Falling atop of the GINN, its arms laid across its shoulders, no pilot to move them away.
His cockpit rattled and groaned in protest but Jonathan didn’t question his luck as his monitors slowly flickered on one by one. His vision was still somewhat obscured but he could tell that he had defeated the Blue Frame. Working quickly the young coordinator punched in the commands to recall his Guul. A tense moment later and he was jumping up to catch his ride out of there. Safety latched onto his platform he called out on his radio. “This is Jonathan, I’ve sustained significant damage, I’m retreating.”
As he caught his breath he realized he was still clinging onto a portion of the enemy suit, “looks like I got a souvenir for my trouble at least. Happy hunting Zala team!”
As much as Locke wanted to keep fighting he knew better than to push his luck with a headless suit. Besides, part of an Orb Astray for the eggheads back home to study would be worth the trouble. “At this rate maybe I can change our fate Lacus…” He mused to himself.

Once again, the battle started to get overwhelming for the poor Orbie, but thankfully her superior had managed to get out of his predicament... only to end up right inside another. Nathaniel proceeded to create a plan of attack for the group, letting the XO lead the charge against the M1 reinforcements. "O-On it, sir!" She responded while the Gold Frame left the area. With Kieran likely following suit, that left her with the Red and Purple Frames, along with plenty more of the mass production types.
Geneva didn't even have much time to think about what to do as beams pelted around them from the enemy. "EEK! We got to go in closer!" The Blue Frame bolted directly at one of the M1s firing upon her, only for it to toss its rifle aside and pull out a beam saber. "Roane!" She yelled, seeing an M1 close to him fall into a large building. " Come here! We're gonna slice these suits up." The SMG's apart of her loadout had two dagger stuck to the bottom of them, allowing her to slice the Astray's hand clean off, sending the other knife directly into its cockpit.
Fortunately, the teambuilding between the group taught the XO how well Kali was at being on the lookout and strategy. "Kali. Keep a lookout for any stragglers further from us or coming towards you. I probably- AH!" A burst of pain rang through Geneva's head, sending a shock down her nervous system. Hoping to take advantage of the Blue Frame's sudden immobility, two M1's got closer, only for their torsos to be pelted with bullets. "Heh... heh... heh..." Gevena breathed in and out slowly, her body feeling very weak and cold. Not willing to repeat her last mission though, the Blue Frame stood back up.
-
Second in line, Geneva had to be quick for the others to help with the attack. "Ensign Halston! Launching Blue Frame." The bare-headed mobile suit bent down slightly as it shot out of the battleship, sending it directly into the sky. As she adjusted the machine's controls, Nathaniel gave out his plan of attack, causing the pilot to change course immediately.
"Affirmative, Lieutenant. Everyone on me!" The XO was acting more professional than normal, realizing that it was likely due to her mishaps from the last mission. This mission would require much more skill and leadership than the ones before. "Landing!" The Blue Frame touched down onto the hard terrain of the area rougher than expected, making the mobile suit tumble forward. It was at this moment that Geneva did something she'd never done before.
Improvise.
Using the control sticks and petals in tandem, Geneva made her machine go into a somersault position, rolling forward on the concrete. As the heavy mobile weapon spun back onto its feet, the pilot watched as the new M1 Astrays respond to Nathaniel's attack. "Just in time..." She stated as they fired their rifles. With no time left, Geneva let loose on two of the mobile suits. The tiny beams plastered themselves all over the distracted machine's torso area, creating a chain reaction of flames and explosions.
Geneva assumed the two pilots were likely dead as the mobile corpses fell to the ground, cracking the pavement surrounding them. Not letting her weapons overheat, she had to wait as some of the mass production Astrays turned away from the Gold Frame, ready to fight her. "Roane! You should've been behind me, right? Gonna need your help!"
-
For Geneva, the fact that the crew would do these anime watching nights didn't exactly help with her becoming a better team member. She'd go because of her orders, but the real involvement with others that helped her was the training exercises. The XO didn't do much to change her loadout, only putting more emphasis on the primary power of the Blue Frame going to her weaponry instead of other aspects of the machine. As for cosmetic changes, no longer was there a V-Shaped fin atop the head of the mobile suit, with Geneva feeling it wasn't nessescary.
Eventually, the ORBie had received her next assignment along with the others. However, it wasn't the type of mission Geneva thought she'd ever have to do. "What? Traitors?" She thought while jumping back inside of the Blue Frame's cockpit. It broke her hearing that citizens of her own country would even think about pulling a stunt like this. As she adjusted her controls, Nathaniel spoke up through each of their comms. An option was given, one which Geneva contemplated for much longer than she should have, but soon after gave a response.
"I'm ready to fight sir. This is for the future of ORB." She didn't want to fight these former allies, but she also knew it was a necessity. Staying out of this battle could lead to drastic consequences. Plus, there was still a part of her that needed to prove to the others that she'd be an effective member of the team in real combat. Geneva finally put on her helmet, awaiting further orders from the superior.
-
The responses she got from the other members of her team were mixed. Some bonding regiments seemed to sound as if they could actually work, while others she felt were strange. Geneva didn't even watch much TV in general and especially didn't feel anime would help the group in any way. "It's not like there are too many shows about pilotable robots in war that are a thing, right?" She thought about it for a bit, but then trailed off.
Thankfully, Nathaniel managed to come up with a plan she agreed with, but was still very uncomfortable with as well. Meetings were apart of being a soldier, but the drill where they'd work together to fix our weaknesses? "I hope he's just talking about my overheating issue." She didn't want to be changed in other aspects, as much as she felt it would benefit her in the long run. The ORB pilot had little control over this and didn't want to add any sort of contention, so she only nodded in agreeance.
"Good plan sir."
-
"I...um..." Geneva began to fidget her feet as she sat near the other crewmembers. It sounded to her like Nathaniel wasn't only disappointed in her during the mission. In fact, seemed as if a lot more went wrong. "It's just... for me, I don't really know any of you. We were all kind of brought onto this squad because of our different..." Her mind drew a blank. "Different... uh... ATTRIBUTES. Sorry, couldn't think of the right word."
"I think its more important that we learn to work together outside of battle?" Her fists clinched as she said this. There was very little of her that wanted to interact with other crewmembers, but as she saw from the last battle, this is a life or death situation where her partners needed to depend on each other no matter what. "I'm not good with variation on missions, and I know I screwed up with my weapons overheating, but... I'm not sure. Does anyone have anything else to say?" By this point, Geneva wanted to do anything BUT talk.
-
Geneva had managed to spend most of her time back in the Archangel in the restroom. Whatever was going on, the pilot knew that it wasn't normal. She had a few minor defects from her perplexing upbringing, but this was also no simple case of the stomach flu. "Why? Why is this happening to me?" Her life seemed to be getting worse and worse once she joined this team, but even with how strange she acted, Geneva knew this was MUCH better than being court martialed. "Perhaps I need to look on the bright side?"
Almost in response to this, she along with the other Astray pilots received a message. As she glanced at the note, she learned they would be discussing the mission. "Looks like we'll be talking about the mistakes I made during it..." She muttered, slowly getting off the toilet seat. As much as she just wanted to go immediately to bed, duty called. Geneva Halston, XO to the Chromatic Team, had to play her part. Her illness would have to wait as she waltzed into the meeting room.
"Sir!"
-
Geneva sighed in relief as the Blue Frame stopped moving. Her superior had managed to join up with them quickly, saving himself in the process. The Astray opened its hatch, Geneva stepping onto the catwalk near it. She always felt that she'd slip whenever she'd hop off the mobile suit, clinching as her feet hit the raised platform. Not once had she fallen, but in her mind, there's always a first time for everything. "I better go to him..." She muttered, noticing Nathaniel.
"Sir, I'm so sorry! It was so stupid, allowing my weapons to overheat like that!" She bowed down and apologized profusely to the Gold Frame's pilot. "I could've put all of your lives in danger... I think it was a mistake picking me, sir." As she spewed out her disapproval of the situation, it hurt the pilot in a bizarre way. "What?" Geneva wondered why she felt a pit in her stomach. It wasn't about the mission, but something else was going on in her head that made her feel... queasy.
"I-I have to go!" Geneva ran away toward the nearest hallway, trying to find the nearest restroom. It seemed as if something else was awry in the strange pilot...
-
Thankfully, the Purple Frame's pilot was able to help out the Orb pilot with drones. At first, Geneva was confused by the repurposed machines, but was soon to understand her savior. "T-thank you?" She called out to the drones, but even they weren't enough. More missiles began to head toward the Blue Frame, with Geneva using her vulcans, only for her superior to come assist.
"Sir?" Now two of her teammates had stopped to help, sending an array of emotions. "Why didn't I bring another weapon? Why didn't I check the heating levels of them? Why am I such a mess?!" At this point, there was little for the Blue Frame to even do, with Nathaniel giving her new orders. "Yessir!" She responded to the Gold Frame's pilot. The blue mobile suit turned away from the leader, sending the mobile suit back.
"Everyone follow me!" Ironically, her SMG's were no longer overheated, but were in quite a hot location. Geneva didn't know if the flaming trees were actually making her sweat, or if it was all in her head. After all, she could only see smoke and blackened wood in her vision, hoping that the others were around her back on their way to the mothership.
"Wait... Is the Commander coming with us?!"
-
The bullets kept pelting more of the missiles, but it wasn't long before Geneva was given another order. Their green mobile suit was taking some fire from the enemy choppers and needed to be stopped quickly. "Yessir! On it!" She yelled out as the Blue Frame left its location. Whatever was happening in this battle, it sounded much worse to the mobile suit pilot than she had first thought. Explosions and gunfire riddled the island and their mothership, causing Geneva to gasp as she watched the Archangel get hit.
"Gotta focus. Follow your orders." She told herself while the sounds of warfare continued. A part of her expected something like this to happen due to her amazing luck in the past, but the other part found this to be a chance to show their adversaries the true power of the Astrays. "I can hopefully keep these guys out of the air..." Many helicopters flew in the sky while the Blue Frame ran toward a nearby dirt pile, getting closer to her green ally.
"Come on! Look at me!" Geneva pulled both the SMGs in front of her, opening fire of the flying machines. A few couldn't even react as their armor was torn into like swiss cheese. The tiny blue beams continued along as the ORB pilot looked straight ahead. "Your puny choppers can't do nothing! Just give up!" Suddenly, the two weapons stopped completely.
EEK!
Geneva quickly looked down at the armaments' screen. "Overheated?!" She screamed. Even worse, there were still many choppers ready to fight her. "Oh no, oh no, oh no!" A sense of panic immediately swept over the pilot, who could've made better responses to the situation, but the Blue Frame only watched in fear as it stared at the enemy machines.

Heliopolis crisis
Zaft forces have traced alliance activity to the seemingly neutral colony of Heliopolis. The coordinator task force takes it upon themselves to infiltrate and steal the new alliance mobile suits being rolled out for deployment. During the attack the Zaft team succeeds in procuring four of the five machines. One of the machines, the Strike by name, was commandeered by a young coordinator by the name of Kira Yamato.
As the strike fought off the attack from a lone GINN, other forces began to take advantage of the deteriorating situation…

Nathaniel hated being rushed, his fingers fumbled over the door code for the third time. “Settle down Hawthorne!” He chided before the woman behind him could quip about him forgetting the code. The Red haired woman bristled at the mind reading remark and shook her head in resignation. “this’ll do it…” Nathaniel cooed as he entered the correct code this time, confirmed by the click of the door unlocking.
The man dressed as an Alliance Lieutenant, snatched the handle of the door and twisted it, holding it fast so it wouldn’t lock again. Nathaniel studied his handgun before looking back at Delphine Hawthorne and the four other members of their commando team. The point man was less than thrilled about this next portion of this impromptu operation but it was for the betterment of their homeland so how could he disagree?
He made eye contact with Hawthorne as she scooted to the opposite edge of the sealed door. Nathaniel quietly mouthed a countdown to “three”, which the woman mimicked with her free hand for their teammates to see.
On the third count he swung open the door violently and followed Hawthorne as she ducked into the corridor, gun raised for any threats. One by one the six man team entered the ship and sealed the hatch behind themselves. As the team pushed themselves through the eerily vacant ship their hopes grew that they could actually pull off this crazy stunt. Their hopes soon met reality as they came to the entrance to the bridge. The team paused by the doo, Nathaniel took the moment to give everyone a stern glance. His team had worked together for many years and could practically read his mind when he gave that particular look, “follow my lead.”
The team of operators soon entered the bridge of the Archangel where they met the skeleton crew of Earth Alliance officers. A black haired woman looked at him with both surprise and relief, “Lieutenant! What’s goin on out there? Have we received orders?”
Nathaniel cleared his throat as his team moved around the bridge, taking up strategic positions but not putting away their weapons. “We have…” he paused to consider his words, “we’re taking the ship out, I need you to initiate the launch sequence.
The stern looking woman nodded grimly and barked out, “you heard the man lets launch the Archangel!” As she said this the other two crewmen began working their controls at their stations. The woman came closer and asked in a lower voice, “so does this mean ZAFT is attacking?”
Nathaniel nodded, “they are, we need to deploy the Archangel into the colony and protect the civilians before any more damage can be done! Can I count on you…” his voice trailed off as he hinted to wanting her name. “Badgirulel, Natarle!” She responded eagerly. She seemed on edge, that much was certain, so Nathaniel did his best to hide his growing smile as he looked her.
Soon the ship left the dry dock and began floating free. Subtle head nods from Nathaniel’s team soon told him that it was time. “I’m sorry to do this Natarle but I’m taking control of this ship. Everyone step away from their stations, and put their hands up. I promise you, that none of you will be hurt.” As he spoke he leveled his gun at the Earth Alliance Officer, she sputtered, “what?”
Nathaniel shrugged sheepishly, “I’m taking this ship in the name of the Orb Union Ensign. I don’t have time to discuss the details right now. All you have to do is surrender so that I can save as many Orb citizens as possible.”
Natarle along with all the other crewmen looked confused and angry, but no one put up a fight as the six man Orb team kept their weapons aimed at everyone. They made short work, cuffing and escorting the crew to a confined area as four people stayed behind on the bridge.
“See no bloodshed Hawthorne!” Nathaniel pipped as they went about double checking all the systems on the ship. The red haired woman scowled at him, “it would have been quicker to shoot them all…” she muttered and again Nathaniel gave a sheepish grin and nodded, “go ahead and take the Command chair, you studied more of this battleship stuff than I ever did.”
His remark did brighten the woman’s mood some, “you mean I’ll be captain?” She raised an eyebrow and Nathaniel shrugged as he looked out the viewport, “Semantics don’t matter right now Delphine, we just need to move quickly.”
The reminder replaced the woman’s stern look and she nodded, “very well, lets make course to the alternative manufacturing site. Assault cannons… fire!” In response the Archanel unleashed a volley from its’ two main cannons to destroy the gate keeping it contained. The massive ship erupted out of the flaming debris of the gate to fly into the synthetic skies of the ailing colony. The commando team remained dumbfounded as they studied the damage to their home territory. Nathaniel was about to say something when the fight between the Strike and a CGUE came to everyone’s attention. “What is that?” He asked aloud as the studied the peculiar mobile fighting the ZAFT unit. He was stunned as a brilliant beam lanced out from the mobile suit to try and hit the CGUE. It dawned in Nathaniel that the mobile suit was one of the GAT series, “that idiot!” He yelled out as the overpowered weapon not only glanced the CGUE but tore a hole into the ground of the colony. “The CGUE is retreating!” Someone called out, much to the relief of everyone on the bridge. Hawthorne spoke up then, “lets match speed and land?” Nathaniel nodded, “yeah, lets see if we can capture the Strike with the same trick. Maybe if we take control of all the Alliance assets ZAFT will cease hostilities…” it was as much a prayer as question as he moved for the door. “Ships in your hands Hawthorne!”
*****
As Nathaniel approached the Strike with one of his other men he saw a woman, and a man with a group of teens. A mobile armor which had been fighting, asked for permission to land, which they gave to help keep up the charade. “Whose piloting the Strike?” Nathaniel called out as they got closer.
The woman turned to look at him and scrunched her face in confusion, “I don’t believe we’ve met? I’m Lieutenant Ramius…”
“Are you the pilot Lieutenant?” Nathaniel didn’t hide his contempt as he studied the out of uniform officer, “no” she responded cautiously, as she did a brown haired teen came down the pulley of the Strike’s cockpit. Suddenly it made sense how the machine could move when the OS was supposedly incomplete. “A coordinator?” Nathaniel mused, which caused the woman to stiffen some, along with the teens. A smile grew on Nathaniel’s face, “boy are you a Heliopolis citizen?” Kira tilted his head as he regarded the mysterious Earth Alliance officer. “I am…” he answered tentatively. “Ah then you’ve done your homeland a great service!”
Nathaniel leveled his weapon at Ramius as his teammate did the same to Mu. “Lieutenant, this ship is under Orb control, you will be confined with the rest of the Alliance officers we’ve arrested. The two alliance officers looked baffled at this turn of events. “We have precious little time to rectify your mistakes so please cooperate and we might all make it out of this alive.”
*****
The jeep bumped precariously as it wound through the abandoned streets of Heliopolis. One battle and one hole in the colony left the place looking quite ragged. Nathaniel adjusted his regular suit as he eyed the road. Nathaniel’s team was stretched thin as it was so he only had two other people with him, both dressed in their own regular suits. He hated leaving the ship like this but knew that he had to. By all accounts ZAFT had secured four other GAT series suits, plus they still had an unknown supply of other mobile suits to boot. “This may be our only chance to level the playing field.” He mused as he entered. The correct code for this security gate the first time. They parked the jeep outside of a nondescript factory and made headway for the interior of the building.
They soon found themselves in a dimly lit hangar of sorts with three massive shadows standing next to catwalks. “Hit the emergency lights! We need to hurry!” Even as he made the order he was climbing a ladder to approach the first machine. The lights turned on just as he approached the chest of a black, white, and gold mobile suit. “Astray…” he solemnly addressed. Nathaniel looked to see his two comrades approached the red and blue machines as well. “If we hurry we can snag all the spare parts move it!” Nathaniel moved for the cockpit and popped the hatch. He went inside the brand new mobile suit and went about adjusting straps and booting up the OS. It wasn’t ideal but he had to adjust the operations system much the same as the ZAFT forces had done earlier. In a few moments the Coordinator had his suit moving. “It just might be an even fight now!” He announced. “This is Nathaniel Barondel, Astray launching!”
